anybody got a BA thread pitch gauge ?  they're spendy on ebay
You dont need a BA guage to determine pitch, any pitch guage will work, it wil just show air if thread form is wrong.. BA is likely 55 degree angle, I will check.

Its 47.5 degrees on the cutting tool, but rounded roots and crests..not sure that is good for rolling..
You would see the rounded root under magnification.

just so i am clear.  is it reasonable to say finding taps and dies for these rolled threads will be difficult, if nonexistant....?

assuming the threads are British, perhaps http://www.tracytools.com/ will be a source.  Tracey carries obsolete and bastard size taps and dies typically found on 1900 to 1930 era motorcycles.

i know gun makers also contend with bastard size thread tooling.

i realize in the area of spokes, we are not talking about bastard sizes, but probably industry standard spoke specs.

Thanks for your post steve swan.I like that new Hozan Ebay sold spoke threading tool;sure would be nice if it could be fitted w/ larger 'rolling/cutting' heads to work for motorcycle spokes if any of us were to find blank spokes 8 gauge or so.
I imagine the Hozan Co. in Japan might make a larger machine.

didn't look closely, but didn't find motorcycle anything under Hozan, but did find this lnk

You can get taps for almost anything, plus, if you are just cleaning the threads, you can make a tap out of semihard material, it would still work.
What I forgot to mention before rolling. And formng taps are chipless, they dont cut..they work by displacing the metal..  Way better and faster in a high production situation...

The Hozan I have is the C700, you just change the rolling head for different sizes/ diameters of spoke. I would be trying to make my own if I could find a source for blank spokes.
