Are there any header options for 550's that have the collector under the middle of the motor?  I would like to go from the collector to a modern carbon exhaust can like the Yoshimura R77 I have on my FZ1 (nice and deep sound along with being relatively quiet on a 1000cc bike, should be good on this motor) and keep everything under the bike (the center stand is gone, so no worries on that front).

The MotoGP Werks 4-1 Yosh replica will do that.  The Hindle sold by Ripple Rock Racers is a 4-2-1 that hugs the bottom of the motor but still allows the centerstand since it goes underneath the motor but around its edges.

Where will the system exit the bike if running underneath? Most of the MotoGP sets run beneath, but then swing outboard on the right to a tailpipe under the foot pegs and outside the right shock.

I can't shoot it right at the tire?  No tire warmers needed :)

I will weld up an outlet that dumps it out the side once I get all the dimensions I need.

Both of those have pretty long primaries that put the collector at the back of the motor.  I was hoping for something shorter.  I may wind up making my own, always wanted to try my hand at welding titanium.

Interesting.  That may be to optimize performance though.

I don't know if it is really good, but it is an AC/DC TIG and more importantly I have amazing welders at work that can teach me.  2 guys welded the entire 2.4 mile nuclear accelerator that I run and every weld is a work of art.

Little more metal work last night and some powder coating.

Pretty impressed with myself matching casting lines.  Upper triple is from a GXSR1000 - I had to get rid of the mount for the keyswitch and the attached bosses.  Went from this

To this

My plan is to drill five small holes in the indented spot where the Suzuki logo went and mount my indicator led's from below.  I chucked up some aluminum in my lathe last night and made a plug for where the starter motor goes, I'm going to make this bike a kickstart only.  I want to do the keyless start that motogadget makes, I'm just not sure how it works.  Anyone running one?  Do you need to leave the dongle in proximity to the sensor all the time or do you just hold it in front of it like an NFC tag and then do it again when you want the power disabled?

Also powdercoated the CognitoMoto hub.  My spokes and the rim are on their way, pretty excited to be able to see the whole thing with wheels on it.

Nice job milling off the key hole on the triple.  The wrinkle powder coating looks great on the trees, too.

I'm not 100% certain, but you might need to remove some of the powder coating on the wheels on the mounting surfaces to the rotors. When Devin powder coats his hubs, I believe he leaves these surfaces bare, as not to alter the offset of the rotors.

I thought of that about 10 seconds before I sprayed the coating.  I'm only running one rotor up front, there isn't any powder on the other side of that pic.

In addition to the fob, you can also program a glass m-lock key tube.

https://cognitomoto.com/collections/motogadget/products/motogadget-m-lock-key-glass-tube

In theory you can sew this into your jacket or glove so that you don't need to carry any key.

That is beyond awesome.  That was his plan, did he ever do it?  I play a lot of sports, his location wouldn't work but getting an implant on the back of my hand between knuckles would work - just give the sensor a fist bump and the bike comes alive  ;D

I prefer the idea of the fob.  What is the best way to allow plenty of radio transmittal between the key fob and the sensor without exposing your electronics to water/road grime?

Nice!!!! Liking the details of this build and, as far as a fob or not< I'd go with the fob.  8)

The M-Lock needs only be positioned close to the sensor to activate the M-Unit. From then, the bike is energized. You re-present the fob to electrically disable the bike when you want to "turn the key off". While riding, the fob goes your pocket.

I knew that this system was available in cars & trucks, but never had any clue that it was available for motorcycles as well, guess I should have realized it would make it's way to the 2 wheeled market as well, huh.  8) ;)

It's pricey for sure, especially when coupled with the M-Unit. But, for people doing up custom bike builds and wishing to remove all 40 year old electrical gremlins, it's a no-brainer. It also makes it possible for someone with very limited knowledge of wiring up a bike to do a fully turnkey solution that's just about bullet proof. That to me makes it worth every penny.  :D

Oh yeah, I can see where it would be beneficial alright. I have no clue as to what it all would cost, but I can clearly see the benefits of going for it. Now, where did I stash that "Money Tree"? Still pretty cool though.  ;)

The sensor isn't a radio signal link, it is a sensor that sends out a low range signal just like clothing scanners that have a rfid tag built into a tag or dye pack clip.  They respond and are powered by the magnetic field the reader outputs and answer the query by the sensor/reader.  You can and often do have rfid chips in credit cards or drivers licenses in some states.

Yeah Cal, That was what I was trying to get across, it is an rfid switch not a signal like bluetooth that has to be maintained or when connectivity is lost it shutsdown.  Cb750 seemed to think the way I read it that the fob or grain sized device had to be within proximity of the sensor to operate and when outside that range it would turn off.  Maybe I misunderstoon what he was saying.
The RFID stuff used by stores has a switch function as well allowing it to pass the sensors without alarming.

I wonder how much the M-Lock draws when the bike is "off."  I expect not much since the range is limited and you would not want to constantly worry about battery drain.

If you use the supplied really, 0. Else, it's like 0.5ma or something minor. They say it's rated for up to 6 months of standby charge before effecting the battery.

Ask and you shall receive (the answer from Cal).

I knew that this system was available in cars & trucks, but never had any clue that it was available for motorcycles as well, guess I should have realized it would make it's way to the 2 wheeled market as well, huh.  8) ;)
It also makes it possible for someone with very limited knowledge of wiring up a bike to do a fully turnkey solution that's just about bullet proof.

Cal's talking about me here.

I'll be testing this theory real soon here and, undoubtedly, providing humor and entertainment for all of you.
