Got the matching stator in the mail today. Everything fits easily under the stock cover, I will just have to machine up an adapter to hold the stator in the cover correctly.

But all of this is on hold because I just got a big pallet delivered from Edelbrock to supercharge my Subaru BRZ. Time for a little fun on four wheels instead of two.

Grabbed the new rearsets from CognitoMoto. Got the foldable pegs and figured with Cognito mounts for a CB550 they would clear the kickstart lever. That was a poor assumption on my part. Have to look to see what everyone else is doing in this instance.

Some days you should have just stayed in bed...

Threading holes for Cognito steering stops and my damn tap snapped off. In freaking aluminum! Trying to get it out would just destroy everything, fortunately I had another lower triple laying around from my initial ebay spending spree. Spent a couple hours taking off the extra mounting points and filing/sanding it all back down. This time I tapped the holes first though...

If you snapped it, your pilot hole was too small causing the tap to chew too much. 5.5mm drill for a 6mm threaded tap. Or buy beefier taps.

I used what was printed on the tap, I think it called for a 13/64".

Maybe the tap was garbage, did the same thing on the second clamp and it worked fine

There is a broken tap removing tool, it is three or 4 fingers that slide into the flutes of the broken tap allowing you to back the tap out of the hole. They come in various sizes for different taps.

those things rarely work any better than a simple hammer and punch...so what is the best way to fix a broken tap?...don't break the tap!

Machining the mount for the stator today.

I can't find my stock stator. Anyone have one laying around that can measure the diameter of the stator collar that slides over the three standoffs in the cover? I could do math and some construction to get it but a direct measurement with metric calipers would be better.

For posterity, the machined circumference on the 3 stator standoffs is 83 mm. Other side of the stator mount is done, machining the back side with this new measurement tonight.

Stator mount is done. Have to get a couple button head m6 screws but otherwise it all bolts up and my new charging system is done

Have to drain forks this weekend and put new seals in, then the whole front end is ready to get assembled for hopefully the last time.

Hahaha. It is taking quite some time...

My realistic goal is summer 2020, but aside from some mechanical connections for the rearset it is really only wiring at this point so maybe sooner. Problem is I want all motogadget stuff, so the expense has to be spread out. Can't have my wife finding out I've spent $15k to build a forty year old bike

Didn't like the way the upper bearing race sat outside the neck, so I machined a cover for the whole thing

Had a nice day outside and with that cap done I could button up the front end for the last time and put the front fender on.

Still need to get linkages done for the rearsets. Ordered headlight brackets and then have to figure out what size I want, I think the stock 7" is just too big since I made all the other dimensions of the bike smaller. Then all that is left is wiring!!

Got my headlight mounts and bolted on the stock light. I think it is too big for the big now that I've made everything else about it so minimal. Probably going to go with a 5.75" led headlight (the bucket I found is 1" narrower than the stock one).

Also got overruled on the tail light. Was planning some kind of shark fin-styled red circle light, but my daughter picked the led strip with turn signals. I didn't plan on doing that so I didn't flush it into the rear hoop and didn't want it just attached to the frame. I used a strip of carbon fiber epoxied to the inside of the rear hump that hangs down 6 mm to put the tail light on. Came out very well. No pics, you'll just have to take my word for it

I agree, headlight looks bulbous against the bike’s new trimmed lines. And I’d love to see the front fender tucked a bit tighter to the tire. Split that distance.

New headlight is in, looks much better.

I agree about the fender, but I bought the kit from Cognito and the gap doesn't bother me enough for the amount of work it would take to get it closer to the tire.

Very little done to the bike that is visible, working on the rear fender liner in carbon fiber right now so that I can get the battery mounted and start laying out wiring.

Can you fill me in on what you did specifically for the wheels?

You put inverted forks and laced wheel in front and a wider hoop for the rear? What did you have to buy/ have made?
