Forks from a GSXR600 with upper and lower triple clamps - ebay & luck
All balls racing bearing to match the above with a 1975 cb550 frame - all balls racing
Cognito Moto front hub for GSXR to laced wheels conversion - cognito moto
Sun 18" rim x2 - cognito moto
Spoke package x2 - cognito moto

Pick the rim width you want based on the size tire you want to run.  I'm not running a wide tire in the back, I wanted to keep the profile the same front and rear.

Terribly slow progress, picked up a new MT-09 and have been riding that as much as possible.

Finally got the rear tail installed and made a carbon fiber wheel well liner for the bottom of the tail.  Inside the rear hoop is a small aluminum frame to hold the LiFePo battery, didn't get pics of that.  Need to look at exhausts next; that and ignition and I can be in a position to finally start the bike.

Headers installed.  Need to decide on an ignition system, adjust the valves and put in a couple basic wires to try starting the bike up.  Once I hear it running I think the project will get very real very fast.

CR26's are sitting off on the side of the photo :)

But that does remind me that I need to figure out the fuel tank outlet, everyone says the stock one interferes with CR carbs.

Day in the garage.  Been worried about this since I completed the taper spacer for the CBR alternator - I finally used some valve grinding compound on the spacer for the final interference fit and installed the stator on my adapter into the housing.  There is stupidly little space between the rotor and stator and I worried about my machining accuracy for the stator adapter.  Put some sharpie marks on each lobe and kicked the engine through several rotations - no smears or worn off sharpie!!!

Back out to adjust the valves now.  Any tips or tricks that aren't in the service manual?

I'll be running CR 26's on this bike, got them from a forum member so not sure what jets are in them.  Anyone have starting recommendations for me?  I have a MRieck stage 2 port job on my heads and 596 pistons.

No wiring done at all really, just going to rig up temporary stuff to start the bike.

Dyna S is ready to go.  Anyone have pictures of the timing assembly.  The instructions have none and I'm not sure what stock pieces I'm supposed to take off.  It appears that the dyna rotor requires removal of the entire stock timing plate but then I have no idea where TDC is so that doesn't seem right.

So I figured out the issue is the spark advance weights were frozen in place and the stock rotor wouldn't come off.  All that is soaking now so hopefully I can get it apart. 

Got jet settings from a customer of M Rieck's that has the same engine setup as I do, so I have all the jets coming.  Going to be time to fire it up soon.

 Here is a good basic starting point:
Main jet, #105
Pilot/Slow jet, #55
Jet needle, #YY8, clip #3
Main air jet, #220
Starter jet, #45
Valve seat, #3.2
Air screw, .75 turns out

Thanks.  I only knew about four of those things.  Is there a manual of any kind that shows which jets are where?  Specifically I don't know what the starter jet and valve seat are.

It's only been six months, I'm on a roll  :-\


So ignition is installed and timed in, enough wiring is in place to start the bike and the bike is filled with oil.  I installed the recommended jets.  I rigged up a temporary fuel tank.


I don't know where any hoses go.  Anyone have even a pic of CR's installed on a bike?  One line must be vacuum to the top of the valve cover, one has to be fuel and there must be an overflow port somewhere.

I should have put fuel injection in this bike, I could have had it running a year ago and tuned it myself.  This carburetor stuff is for the birds  :)   What I really want to do is find a crashed Zero and put the motor/battery/speed controller in this.  Old school looks, light weight and full torque at zero rpm.

Can't help on the CR questions but...keep at it man. Bike looks so damn clean it's gonna be worth it in the end. I fought the carbs at altitude forever but once it's solved you're good. Can't wait to hear this thing.

So the CR26 kit I got from another member on here.  It is 'used' but it was obviously never installed or even opened.  Two things, one there is not enough room for the outboard pods without hitting the frame and two, I seem to be missing some kind of adapter that lets the larger opening of the pod fit on the inlet for the carb (which will only make the clearance issue worse).  Any ideas? @Godffery these might be one of your kits, there was a Power Barn sticker in the box.

Answering my own questions so far.  The intake manifolds were not even close to flat, the outboard connection to the carbs was 1.5 mm thicker in total than the inside.  So I put both of those on the mill and made them flat.  That bought me a couple mm of space.  Then I realized you could jam the bottom of the K&N coupling in between the intake of the carb and a protrusion on the float bowls; once you did that you could crank down on the hose clamp and the filter is secure and has space.



I still don't know what the nipples on the carbs are.  The bottom one in this pic is the only nipple in this line, the rest of them are coupled together so this must be the fuel intake.  But each carb has it's own nipple on the front - what the hell is that for?

Those nipples are for the starter jets. Put some tubes on them and lead them out about 6". If you don't crap gets into them and the will not let the rubber closing seal seat. All sorts of bull$hit ensues after that. Only took me about 10 years to figure that out,
