Hey Frank,
I'm going to that race next weekend. Going to run ET and 5.60. Anything I need to know about the King of Grudge program?
David
This is primarily a grudge event. I convinced the promoters when they first started the event many years ago to include ET bracket. By the next race I talked them into adding 5.60 but they set it up as 5.70. We eventually lowered it to 5.60. The class racers were basically fillers initially to keep bikes going down the track til the grudge guys show up to race. In the last few years the classes have picked up attendance because they've put more money in the purse. The show will likely start off slow and pick up to a fast pace, especially if there are a lot of grudge bikes and they want to refocus on that part of the event. We then become the sideshow. But... they will make certain the class racing gets completed, no doubt about that!! All in all, it'll be a good event.
One thing to keep in mind, we've asked the promoter to separate the box bikes from the no box bikes in the early rounds. As eliminations proceed, the class with the lower count that eliminates to one remaining bike will then move over with the rest of the ET bikes for the continuation of the race. We felt it would give the no box bikes a better chance at making rounds and bring parity, as much as possible, to the ET class. Otherwise, its likely most of the street ET bikes wouldn't even participate because they know the box bikes would dominate from the opening round. In the final round, there should be one box bike, and one no box bike. This scenario is used often in big bucks car races. Nothing new about doing it this way.
