Fcuking hot here men, you guys with your shiny low mileage bikes parked in heated garages, slipping on your arses just to go check your frozen mailboxes don’t know how good you’ve got it, it’ll be in the 90’s here untl Sunday, and as I’m locked down until Thursday I’m riding my RT3 around the backyard just to keep in practice! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

You can enjoy how wonderful a cold beer or 3 taste!

We need warm Glühwein over here! ;)
Hopefully max 35 days left for a ride. Same date as last year.

My last package of CB750 parts last week rang on my door, just opened and grabbed it.

I know you guys "up north" laugh at us, but we are just not prepared for 6" of snow, it has only happened 3 times in Austin.

The airport closed again today, so you cant even get out if you want to head far south to warm weather!

This Winter storm has broken large parts of Texas. Many power plants are down, and a lot of people have been without power for 1-2 days in record cold temperatures. And we have another storm coming through tonight. Somehow we still have power (knock on wood) while many neighborhoods all around us have been without since yesterday. My parents haven't had power since yesterday afternoon, and they're going to come stay with us if it doesn't come back on soon, even though we haven't had any close contact with them since the start of the pandemic.

This is already really bad, and if they can't get power back on to most people today, it's going to get a lot worse.

I am not laughing at anyone, as it is miserable.  Snow is one thing, but ice storms and power outages during low temps are difficult to deal with.  My comment had more to do with the coverage of it.  "Record breaking" and "historic" are both being thrown around, but none of this is unprecedented.  There have been many legendary winter storms across the Midwest.  I was in Oklahoma City in the late '70s when one buried everything.  I remember seeing photos of semi trucks stopped on I-40.  You couldn't tell the interstate was even there, just a wide expanse featureless snow.  Every winter people somewhere are getting their asses kicked by the weather and it is always presented as a big surprise.  That was the context of my comment.  Even here in SW Idaho where you'd think people would be used to it, quite a few are acting like the end of the world is coming because of the foot of snow we got over a couple of days.  Of course, many of them are California escapees, but not all are.  Good luck to everyone while this is going on.

I live in the country and having a generator is a necessity. The best advice I can give is get a Honda generator. Not a Honda powered one but a real Honda generator. I've had my EB3500 for over 20 years and it still starts on the first or second pull. I've lived on the generator for a week at a time many times over years and I have already done a week on it this winter. Even if I had to live in the city I would still have my generator.

Kelly,I'm looking around for a small Honda,a used EU2000i.They go for over 1000 new and I would only use mine occasionally.I will keep looking around find one and fix it up a bit if needed,I love how quiet the Honda generators are.

I used to run the generator in a fenced and covered 24' X 8' area next to the house where the rabbit lived.  The generator is quiet enough that the rabbit would sleep right next to the nice warm generator instead of the rabbit hutch.

My daughter's house has an addition with LP gas and it ran out, The supplier has multiple excuses but I believe the fact is they don't have any to deliver.  The ground source heat pump and electric space heater are taking up the slack, I hope the garage floor loop has antifreeze in it, the pump is still circulating ice water.

Fcuk that men, I've been watching Fox and CNN news (very quiet now that Big Chief Yellow Face has retired to Florida with all the other old folks) and that snow and ice is sh1t. The generator thing makes me laugh, over here I've got a couple of cheap gennies (Honda knockoffs) for when everyone turns their aircon on at the same time and blows a transformer at the local power station.

My biggest is only 2300 watts, but enough to keep my beer cold, my light on, and my TV and internet working. Good luck to all you poor baastards chest deep in that white sh1t, it looks nice on Christmas cards, but does nothing for me. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

More nuclear power plants to the people to ensure electrical power independent of weather. ;D ;D

We'll get huge problems if real power plants are replaced by tiny birdkilling propellers that probably will have problems with ice, snow and hard winds.

All electrical cars a new load on the mains network.

I might have a look at a Generator too when the risk of no power increases.

Yep, nuclear power is the go Per, as long as it's a better design that Fukashima, Chernobyl or 3 Mile Island. I might have to build a nuclear reactor using old bike parts and ginger beer, and become a big wheel in the Power Industry, I think I'll call my company "Tenron"........ ;D

Your new build thread?
Make your own power!

Important to run it properly and build it far away from tsunami and earth quake areas ;)

That technology has improved.

It's a pity that ethanol cause issues and frequent service on our bikes.
Otherwise OK to share a tank with the bike and maybe a generator too. Happy hour 24/7 ;)

I've got a 9375 watt generator here that I can plug into the house and take care of most of the necessities. I live in an area with a lot of dead and dying ash and elm trees that like to take the power out when windy. Makes for good firewood though !
My elderly widow neighbor has a nice Generac that is looped in and starts automatically during an outage and runs on natural gas. I want one. Hers stopped working during an event once and I checked it out. Was pleasantly surprised to see a Honda engine in it but it was all covered in oil. The company tech who maintains it forgot to tighten the dipstick at its last check up and it vibrated off spewing oil and shut off the engine with a safety switch when the level got too low  ::)  Dumbass

I could not resist to look for Honda. I need 230/240VAC version.  But it drinks a lot!! Not cheap power. I usually get 5-6kwh/USD from my electrical provider. Diesel almost 2USD/L

The electrical power here is seldom gone, max 1 hour a very few times. All power routed in pipes under ground.

Except for high voltage lines on high pylons  and no destructive storms here.
Different on country side with cables hanging on not high poles that can be broken by falling trees.

So day 6 of "Winter Blast '21" brings more freezing rain to our area.  This is on top of the 6" of snow that fell on Sunday and the freezing rain that fell last Friday.  My street is all ice, fun for sliding on but guess I am not riding today!

More snow is in the forecast and we are now under water restrictions.   No biggie, I got booze, dont need no stinkin' water!
