I have a full face beard and toque for protection..dont need no steenkin mask..
I now regret putting that smooth Conti on the front, get in anything unpacked, it goes sideways easy.. The front end that is.
As I ride I keep thinking, its way better than trying to ride the 750 in snow.. And will hurt less if I go down..
Am riding a vintage Nishiki mountain bike, brakes keep freezing, damn original cracked cables let water in the cable..

Frank, slap some new cables on that bike, or new sleeves or whatever you call the outer housing.  New cables should be easily replaced by any competent bike shop and other than selling bikes for Christmas they probably would appreciate the work and not charge a fortune.  I had new cables fitted to my bike when changing the gear shifting mechanism, Trek Crosstrek, from the grip shift to trigger shift. It was not very expensive.
Especially if you are going to continue riding it this winter.  There is a grizzly bear like Canadian rider on the CX forum who has a winter bike (CX) of course that is fitted with a side car and he rides year round.  I think the side car hack is predominately a winter transport or possibly a bad weather bike.  He uses a good fairing with lowers and relocated the radiator to provide heat for both himself and the side car.
I will have to send you a link to the thread where he did a refresh, reengineering on the bike cosmetically, etc.

Fcuk it's hot. 93 deg F as I type this, was 98 yesterday and 95 the day before. I worked out in my non-insulated steel garage yesterday but fcuk it, I'm staying under the cooler vent today, hopefully it'll be cooler tomorrow. Makers Mark 46 on ice is a nice way to keep me cool............ ;D

Is it a humid heat or dry heat...reason I ask is in the desert of Tucson AZ and other desert SW areas where it is hot  and very dry. We used a "swamp cooler" which puts water in a stranded matt and a fan blows through this picking up water droplets and this heat exchange cools the air and it is used to cool a room until the heat overcomes its ability to cool or the ambient humidity is high negating the ability to do this hest exhange and therefore the cooling.A mister which sprays a fine mist of water into the air also works to lower the air temp.  It is often used outside in patios and at restaurants in their outdoor eating areas.

Just a thought...won't help Stev-o as Texas is humid and hot in the summer.
This time of the year is paradise in the desert...warm and comfortable during the day, but brisk or even chilly at night.

Thanks mate, well usually it's a dry heat here in summer, but we had a heap of humidity as the weather changed and ramped up into a torrential downpour that lasted for an hour causing flash floods all over Melbourne. The temp has dropped from 93 a couple of hours ago when I last posted, to 63 now, but it's still very sticky.

I've only got a big swamp cooler in my house, I was going to install ducted air conditioning, but the cost to run it is approx 100 times that of the swamp cooler, so on humid days I just run the fan, and it's better than nothing. Cheers, Terry. ;D

A swamp box is pretty much all you need until you pass Sydney (heading North). After that, refrig is mandatory. That or just grin and bare it.

I grew up in Ballarat, so I'm quite comfortable wit temps and humidity that range from minus C to low fourties and high 20% to low 80%. I remember sweeping snow off the roof on Christmas eve! Unheard of here in the south half of the world!

... and ... Gotta love Melbourne. Four seasons in a day!

Totally know what your mean...the swamp coolers are economical until conditions change.  Lots of efficiency as long as you don't run into moisture problems in the house.  The ac system is pretty much needed in those months where it doesn't work to cool.lits of places struggle through without AC but having it makes it tolerable.  I know some suffer through it and others install a room AC in the bedroom or they get a portable one.

It is early in your WInter Terry, hope it cools down enough to be good for riding & occassional wrenching.  What a lot of Arizonians do is get up very early to get things done before it gets hot.

Thanks mate, I've just realised that I've been on holiday for almost 2 weeks and haven't ridden at all except when I moved some bikes into a storage place last week, so tomorrow, I'm gonna go riding! Cheers, Terry. ;D

The swamp cooler is in my house Frank, so not much to rust there, but stuff in my un-insulated steel garage rusts pretty easily in winter, my lathe and mill bed's will rust pretty easily if I don't spray a bit of WD40 on them regularly. ;D

Was cold and wet here today, down to around 62 deg F, but it'll be back in the 90's by the weekend. Somewhere in between would do me fine.......... ;D

Lovely Steve. Our Western Michigan Broncos from Kalamazoo are down in Texas today for the Cotton Bowl, bet they won't want to come back, big cool down and snow mid-week here, unless they win and our little town will be going crazy for them.
