   It got down to -8 this morning, by the time I climbed outta bed around 7am it was still -6. Brrrrrr.....

My buddy in MI sent me a message yesterday morning, it was -7 yesterday in south central MI too!  That is just plain frigid!!

Question:  Is -7 really any different than say, 10 degrees?!  Both are literally frikken freezing!

In contrast, a hot summer day in TX can reach 105F, but it doesnt feel much different that say 98, both are frikken hot!!  Do the extreme numbers play a head game on us?

   I suppose it depends on the individual. 10 degrees is cold but not COLD, once it starts getting below zero, its getting cold. Throw in some wind and its really freaking cold, we've not had any wind this year with the cold so its manageable. Up to about 60 yrs of age, I was pretty active, ran and rode (bicycle) year round, but the past 7 yrs not so much, ya get a little tired of adjusting and dressing because of the extremes. last summer I didn't run at all, too hot period (I used to love running in the heat). I don't think it's a head game per say, we just become less tolerant of the extremes and then think to ourselves, "I don't ever remember it being this way." It is warmer earlier and way later in the year these days, this past fall was the warmest and driest I have ever experienced in the NE. So for me, yeah, getting older is a daily recalibration with what was vs what is...

Frostbite sets in quicker at lower temps, as does hypothermia if sweating or not dressed for temps...

I live in SE Michigan, somewhere in that green circle. Once the lakes are cooled and frozen it might stop snowing. I see some ice in Green Bay, WI and a little shore ice near Chicago.

It was 5* here this morning! That makes 10 days this month with single digit temps. I went back through my records to 2016 to see how many times this had happened in the recent past:
2024 1 day
2023 0 days
2022 0 days
2021 1 day
2020 0 days
2019 3 days (on 1-1, the low was .5*, on 1-2, the low was 2.3*, and on 1-3, the low was 7*)
2018 1 day
2017 0 days
2016 1 day
This summer had extremely high temps, and I didn't light the furnace pilot until the middle of October this year, instead of the middle of September as usual.

Yeah, the wind is what really makes it too cold,for me.

Heading home……. Highly recommend the Honduras island of Roatan. Reef diving and snorkelling Infinity Bay is world class. Cigars and rum good too. Plowing out the driveway tomorrow will suck!

Its SUPPOSED to get up to 41 degrees today and it snowed an inch or two last night, so yeah springs still a ways off. But on the good side of it all, any day above freezing here, is a good day... What was the water temp when diving in the Honduras?

I have seen the tv show Caribbean life, mostly people from Canada and USA move away from cold winters or busy cities. Several episodes on Roatan.

I did a virtual ride in Costa Rica, Santa Ana to find a Honda dealer last weekend.... Google street view

It seems that weather systems have moved a little. Here warmer winter than usual.  0C +/- 5C. Not much of -15-20C as Jan-Feb can give us.

I hope spring will be better this year.

Last years April colder than I can recall. 
Riding season should start in April with no winter days.

 It's warm here today and was yesterday too, I saw 62*F.
 I broke a tooth and had it pulled this morning, the pharmacy is taking so long to get the RX I might not even need the pain pills. Working on the bikes in the driveway seems to distract from the ache.

The temps here had been 10-15 degrees below normal, and last Monday we had 2+ inches of snow, then another inch on Wednesday. Today it was 10-15 degrees above normal, at least in the afternoon when it got up to 71 degrees.

Was 84F this afternoon and forecast to reach 87F tomorrow afternoon... We are looking at much warmer temps than we were having...areas all across Northern AZ which typically seems snow are reporting the least amount of snowfall of all time. 5 larger towns/cities showed the 2024-2025 season to be 1 or in top 5.

We have been extremely dry here and drought and wildfires will punctuate our news this year, it is inevitable.

Just like California and LA will have lots of landslides and more fires...

2” more over night, but it did stop and a beautiful, sunny day! Only -4C. We now have at least 24” of snow everywhere. The old 1980 F350 plow truck is getting plenty of abuse this winter! Warming it up now……
