I buy the Maple Grove Farms brand from Vermont,  US$7 for a small 8oz bottle. You've heard of them?

I have a big maple in the back yard that had wind damage, so I cut off a couple branches and to my surprise last week there were maple ice sickles hanging off of the cuts. Now I'm thinking I've missed the boat on cooking up some maple goodness.

Oh yeah, it's been unseasonably warm here, shirt sleeves for the last week. It sounds like on Friday mother nature will pay us back for enjoying it too much.

No I haven't heard of them Steve. I've always bought local just because of the availability. And the longtime running competition between Vermont and New Hampshire Maple Syrup producers, though I did buy some Vermont Syrup back in the 70s in a store once before finding the local guys. Last year's price was $16/quart(32 oz.) It's up to $20 this year.

John, that’s a lot of snow! Did it remove itself from your garage or did you rake it off? Your house OK?

I never liked having snow piled up around my buildings like that, especially while it was melting.  Got a snowblower?

Yes, that was in West Texas several hundred miles away and the dust was blown all the way here!

There is also a huge wildfire near Fredericksburg, one of our favorite bike riding areas.  The "Crabapple" fire has burned 9500 acres, Budman lives near there.  You ok, Bud?

I was driving the 40 Chevy on dry salt free streets checking out the repairs I did with no jacket on, and even rode the Suzuki to the storage unit to get the car last week. Tonight there's two inches of snow everywhere. It's only 32*F though, that snow can't last long.
I still haven't used the snowplow this year, I did broom off the sidewalk a time or two.

Last Saturday I was washing my truck and ash began falling on everything and there was a strong smell of smoke in the air. I thought there was a fire very close by.
I'm sixty miles from Fredricksburg! The whole sky to the west was yellow.
It's now 90% contained.

That's crazy Ranger!  I'm 80 miles from 'burg, less as the crow flies, no ash here just a lot of West Texas dust and the Tacoma remains dirty!

Spring is here!  Seems the high winds have finally diminished so maybe I wash the Tacoma today?  [the boat is clean and ready]

Been “away” for a few days. Vicious ice storm has devastated our area. No power since Saturday evening and no repair crews in site. The road leading to our farm gate has more than 1/2 the poles on the ground. Our lines are still up, but the pole at the road we connect to (1000’ from out home) is on the ground. So many trees down by the road I can’t even see our lines….. Generator is performing well, so we have lights and water. Unfortunately our new heat pump uses far to much “juice” for the current system. Our “Findley” cook stove is doing a remarkable job of keeping the house warm and cooking our meals. We had a full face cord of firewood, but heading out to get some more! Spring can’t come soon enough.

Looks like a fine meal John.
We had 1/2" of ice Sunday morning.
50°f today. Possible snow tomorrow night then changing to rain Thursday and 60°. It's a yo yo here.

Steve….. Probably not for a few days. The cook stove and the generator are keeping everything warm and running. Tim (the guy I race and farm with) is headed over now with his really BIG New Holland tractor. The last 100’ my overhead power lines cut through Forest on the way out to the pole on the road. The cut is plugged with downed trees and my lines are buried under them. His tractor has a huge snow bucket on the front, with a massive row of top clamps. The plan is to pull my disconnected lines out and try and clear the “cut”. Out on the road, there are 5 poles down and no crews in site. Hopefully I’ll be ready for hook up when they get here…….
