I'm having my 72 CB500 repainted next month but I cant decide on the color. My first choice was black with the original white pinstriping. I just purchased original exhaust so now I'm thinking about painting it an original color. whats your choice? please post pics of your custom paint scheme.

I prefer the green for the 550's, but I think gold looks better for the 500

I've had a few different colours. My first was Candy Gold and I like that a LOT. However I always longed for the black version so I bought one of those. However then I preferred the gold again, seems the grass is always greener etc.

I currently have a Candy Gold one again, I have a Jade Green brand new panel lying around somewhere which I quite fancy getting a full setup for. However my favourite is a colour not often seen here in the Uk as only 3 were ever imported in the 70s, namely because we didn't get the K0 version over here. However whilst I was working as an Honda mechanic the parts dept was having a clearout of all old stock for the CB500 and knowing I loved that model I was allowed to take what I wanted dirt cheap. I chose a brand new gold tank, side panels but it was only many months later when unpacking them that I noticed they are actually Starlight gold not Candy Gold. I love the Candy but the Starlight is just lovely to look at.

Unfortunately since US imports of the CB500 have been common these days I have spotted a few Starlight Gold CB500 around, so much for my exclusivity which I must admit I did kinda like.

So Starlight Gold for me.

You already eliminate the sunrise orange that the 73 had?

The 72 only had three options:
Candy Jet Green/Black
Candy Garnet Brown/Black
Candy Cold/Black

Of the originals, I liked the Gold the best.

Well you know what colour I prefer... (shameless plug)

I was originally going for a metalflake orange like the 750's had, but it came out more golden. Everyone still loves it (or maybe they just love old bikes).

Black is nice but these old babies sure pop with some colour. It's a tough decision but whatever you choose won't be wrong, it will be great & post pics!

i've been on a bit of a hiatus while working on some other projects. i did endup going with black and used white for the pinstripe. i'm really happy with how it turned out. i have more about it on my project build page

I had to vote Candy Jade Green. I wanted to paint mine white to match my Vetter fairing and luggage, but the wife had a fit (it's her fathers old bike). So I'm just going to have to put some green on the Vetter stuff to tie it all together.

Damm....That bike looks great black. I'm really stuck...I love all the colours, even my original brown. Oh Sod it I've made my decision to do it Candy blue so Candy blue it is.

Thanks, I haven't been nominated for BOTM but it's a far cry from being on the same level as some of the bikes I've seen nominated before. I need to do some serious polishing here and there. I have a black vetter fairing to match also. the luggage rack was purchased off evilbay, to my suprise it actually had 72 CB500 stamped on it!

Wow, that's something! I don't think you would come accross that very often. Yea, some of these guys are pretty far out there on what they've done to their bikes. I love yours for it's beautiful restored to original condition, a lot of people don't appreciate that it takes just as much work & attention to detail, all they see is a very nice old bike.
