CB350F battery
« on: December 13, 2016, 09:02:31 AM »
If I have LED's for my turn signals and kick instead of the electric starter, can I get away with using this battery?
http://www.batteryspec.com/cgi-bin/cart.cgi?action=link&product=150  Would I have any issues overcharging the battery?

Thanks,

Cool, I just got a reply from the manufacturer. They said the battery can be installed every which way except for upside down.

So I guess back to my original question, would this work for the CB350F for basically lights only since I'll be using the kick to start?

Thanks!

You need some reserve power for running in town - the 350 alternator barely charges at highway rpm, the battery is discharging below 3000rpm or so and really discharging rapidly at idle.  5AH isn't much, but should be good for a few hours of stop-go traffic if you get out on the highway for an hour or two afterwards. You may need a battery tender overnight for confidence though. Turn signals use roughly no power so leds don't make appreciable difference in load. The ignition and headlight use the majority of your electrical power.

Only 5AH seems too low for that bike. When I restored one a few years back I used a std flooded battery, yet I believe it was at least 10-12 AH rated.
As already noted these bikes have very poor electrical systems with zero excess capacity, so the battery is doing a lot of the work in around town and low speed/rpm situations.
Buy a battery that is the correct AH rating to match the original one. The AGM is a good quality style of battery and better than a std flooded one, yet not enough capacity and you will be walking.
Common sense.....isn't so common!

If the bike's power consumption is always greater than the alternator output, the battery will eventually go dead, regardless of size. ;) Consider adding an LED tail-light/brake-light, and switch the head-light off when running at low RPMs, if possible. While the alternator can't produce it's maximum 156 watt output until 5000 RPM, it will still produce some power at lower RPMs. The ignition system only requires about 35 watts. I've used a 3AH battery, similar to the smallest motorcycle battery from that seller, with good results on my 750, and the connection to the battery terminals is the same style.

i had this test battery..it holds up for all stuff can start even cars.(not vith that fuse).have solderet thik vires on the terminals...so they not heat up..
so the thin terminals can take the load from 12 ah batteries vith no problems..if they are solderet

I should also save some wattage with a 35w H4 headlight too? I think the stock one is 55w.

A 35 watt headlight at night and visibility to other drivers during the day would concern me.

So this one wouldn't be better than the stock light?

The stock headlight on the baby bikes is 35W low/50W high. An H4 of the same wattage is lots brighter than the original bulb.

With some searching, and not to break the bank completely, I found this battery.
https://shop.antigravitybatteries.com/products/starter-batteries/small-case/ag-801/
It's the smallest I could find that was closest to 12ah. It has 9ah, so I'm hoping with a few electrical upgrades I will be okay. I have a battery tender to keep it maintained as well.

I'm possibly thinking about changing the gearing a bit too so the revs stay a bit higher and I can get a little more acceleration at the same time.

fine..but lithium batteries need full elektronic load kontroll..so thange the regulator to a car type..for regulated rotor vinding..you vill be fine..and never get over 13,8 volt.

.the stanmdart system can get as heigh as 18 volts,,as it are a mecanic relæ vith some restister to koppel in and aut after aktuel load..there is not any elektronic" volt" regulating at all..but a 12 ah primitive accic battery can take some overloading../and vill stabilice the voltage..so the bulbs not are bloving..
but a modern litium have low intern restins..so have not that stabilicing effekt..
