Caliper holder dimension request
« on: December 13, 2016, 11:23:05 AM »
Hi guys, I'm rebuilding my front brake and the caliper holder, part 194 in the image

Is nowhere to be found, bike been in pieces for so long I can't remember if I had it when I originally got it or not. I'm in Mexico so it's way easier for me to just machine new parts like those, so If anyone is kind enough to have one on hand and can share the dimensions with me I thank you in advance. BTW, my bike's a 75 Cb400f.

Thanks again.

I'm interested mostly on the thickness and the hole placement, if you could dig it out I would greatly appreciate it.

I believe the same part was also used on 500/550s? The hole for the pin (#200) is a fairly precise hole, and can't be simply drilled with a twist bit. The off-set from the mounting surface to the center of the pin-hole is about 11mm, but that is a rough measurement at best.

I have a machine shop to my disposition so based on what you said I'm guessing the pin hole should be reamed. As of now I only have some pictures of the part, so I'll use some cad software and the measurements from my bike to reverse engineer a part I guess.

Yes, the pin hole should be reamed. I can get more accurate measurements from a '77 400 part if you are determined to make one, but it may take a few days.

Thanks! That would be awesome from your part, sure I can wait on it a few days.

Measure the pin you got and center to center of the holes in the fork, then offset is all you need.
On dual disc, the offset gets shimmed.so shim or mill off as you need.

On a 76 550, I reamed the pin hole with a "W" reamer.  I think it measures .386 inches.  Not hard to make if you have the dimensions.

The offset from the center of the pin hole to the mounting surface is .433" (11mm). the thickness at the location of the hole is .788" (20mm). The diameter of the pin is slightly smaller on the end where it goes into the bracket; .3847" (9.77mm). The holes where the bracket bolts to the fork leg are oval shaped; .246" wide x .282" tall. The center-to-center distance is about 48mm, as close as I can measure.
