P.O. JB Weld job. CB750K2

I was replacing my driveshaft oil seal today and noticed what looks like a glob of JB Weld below it. I started scraping at it with a razor blade, and it definitely seemed like softer material than the surrounding aluminum case. I then took some sandpaper to it to level down the surface some more. I am perplexed as to why this is here.

I have three questions hopefully you guys can help answer:

Doesn't this seem like a weird spot for damage resulting from a thrown chain?
Why is the repair a perfect circle?
Is this something I need to worry about?

I just got this bike and have not ridden it extensively yet, just up and down the drive way. I'm thinking I'll just run the bike without the sprocket cover on for a while so I can keep and eye on the mystery spot. Maybe I'll glob some more JB on it.  :o

AHA! Just found some pictures of other people's bikes with the same glob in the same spot. I guess it's not a JB weld, but something else. What a relief. What the heck is it?

I've used quiksteel for the odd job now and then.  It could be that.

Part of the problem is you have the spark plug in the wrong place!  :o  :P  ;D  ;)

Oh, that's why it wont run! ;). I'm still looking for a proper chain oiler plug...

Here is a picture from someone else's post way back in 2012. You can see the same mystery glob below their oil seal as well (slightly below the circled area).

  I've read where people have used a cut off spark plug for an oiler blocker, think member Frank at 754 was making a little more elegant plug for that.  Not sure but maybe that plugged hole your looking at had something to do with the casting process at the factory, another one of those things I have never noticed after all these years with 750's.

Its probably a drilled oil passage.. And the plug is welded in place so it never moves..
 Not sure , i think I am out of plugs.

 Early cases have factory epoxy plugs in them.  This may be another one.

How early Don? I bought that 69 K0 earlier this year and haven't had time to look at it until now (first day of my month long annual leave) so I'm keen to see what I've got! ;D

 My sandcast has epoxy in the case, I freaked out, but was told they all do. This was on the right side down low under the points. I honestly haven't checked where yours is.

Thanks for all the info guys. I was panicked when I first noticed this, but now am breathing a sigh of relief. Still seems a little weird to me Honda plugged some holes with epoxy. They probably figured no one would notice as the evidence is burried in a nice thick layer of chain oil/grime a couple miles down the road from the dealership ;D
