Hi there!

Just signed up here because I will start the restoration of a 1976 CB750 Four and will most certainly need help and advice from other experts.
I bought this bike in 1999 as a running "parts bike" from a dealer for $150.-
I took it totally apart and had the frame painted. I started collecting NOS parts over the years, when they were still relatively inexpensive.
But I never made any real progress with this project because other stuff took priority
I have a small collection of different vintage and newer bikes and started to reduce the number about 2 years ago and thought it is time now to seriously proceed with the 750. Will post some pictures once I become more familiar with the site mechanics.

;D ;D We have a "walk-out" basement, where I keep my bikes in the winter and where my "shop" is. I just don't know, how much progress I can make. I have a couple of other projects that need to be addressed also. ::)

Wow, you have the rare GB500!  How is it?  Have you taken a test ride of the new CB500 to compare it?
Lots of complaints about a steady throttle curve on the new motor instead of a peak pulling feel you get with a lotbof older bikes.  The CB100 , new onie, has the same type of uninspiring performance.  There is a thread of a fellow putting the new 500 motor in a cb450 frame.  Interesting restomod unlike most.

There was a Kawa EX500 motor put in a cb500k or cb550 frame and they fitted the front forks too if I recall correctly.  Was said to be highly entertaining track bike, some guys in California or PacNW did it.

We used to have two GB500s. One for my wife, one for me. She sold hers at 7,800 miles. Mine has 2900 miles on it. Pristine. It is not a bike for longer trips. A sunday morning excursion on windy backroads is fine. The stock motor puts out only 34 horses. It is definitely more of a looker than a performer. Back in the days, many people
put a 605cc top end and a Supertrapp muffler on it. I think the original condition bikes are more sought after
I still like it a lot. It is a nice small "flickable" bike. several years ago, we had a club rally in Maggie Valley and one of the guys had an issue with his bike, so another meber let him borrow his GB500 that he had on a trailer to ride for the day. We went over the Dragon and the kid held his own running the little GB with all the big bikes.

Unless you have sentimental value and one day wish to sell it hopefully the interest will rise as would the price.  Just have to time the sale when prices are high, ideally.

Often a low powered bike with a good rider can beat a bigger bike on a curvy course/road/track...as long as the straights aren't too long.  Had a friend who could push his prepared 240 Volvo through the canyons between LA and Lancaster, CA with a less skilled friend with a Corvette.  Coming out of the corners Tim would be filling Nick's rear mirror. Naturally Nick pulled away in all the straights with ease. Once Tim taught Nick how to choose lines and braking techniques, etc. Nick went on to join SCCA and be teaching car track schools not too much later as he had advanced to a extremely talented driver and instructor.  He also won some regional SCCA track events.

So, while the Dragon is an extreme example of a curvy road that levels the playing field for many size bikes...

Very nice looking bikes.  Clean styling from the factory, too bad they under powered it...

I'd like to see one fit w/ a pumped XR650L engine, but that might take away the nostalgic/classic original value of it,I wouldn't care.  :D

The values for originals are up there. Nobody wanted them in 89 and 90, so Honda gave dealers an $800.- incentive to move them. Sticker was around $4,300.-
Mine was bought by the original owner in 91 for $2,800.- according to the paperwork.
Prices for low mileage examples are above $6,000.-, I have seen them go for 10K. It is collectors' bike, not a rider.
