If you drive a snowplow I just assume you're a lazy vulture.
« on: December 17, 2016, 10:31:25 AM »
Because as soon as it snows here we go! Driving around with your blade half up getting paid. Every year it's the same goddamned thing. Btw, the snow turned to rain and the roads have cleared themselves... what exactly are you plowing now? I'm speaking from experience, if you hire a plow make sure they aren't hammering your #$%*. Yes I'm pissed off. The whole thing is just a gimmick for the towns and towns workers to make a killing a few times a year. Is there an inch of snow on the ground? Yes? Get the plows going and don't skimp out on the liquid frame rot either! Tax payers are paying good money for this stuff!

Depends where you live. If you live in some real snow it's a necessity.

I know. But in NJ everyone acts like it's #$%*ing Alaska or something. Everyone's afraid of the big bad abominable snow shower. It's winter #$%*ers, if you don't like it, move south.

The only correct place for snow to be is on the side of a mountain serviced by ski lifts.

Otherwise, it's a nuisance. My humble opinion.

Oh yesss. My favourite resort is Val Thorens : http://www.valthorens.com/

Sadly not this year, as it was a choice between skiing or RC30 back on the road.

Got to have winter sports to enjoy winter! The in between #$%* sucks. Either full on winter or none. Can't even get out and ice fish or ski or snowmobile

I feel I would be quite happy living/working in a mountain resort village like that.

It's quite special. The entire ski area is the three valleys "Les trois VallĂ©es" it's  enormous . Been going there almost 20 years and have not skiied every run.

Amen! That's what I say too... I hate dancing around the snow for some rainy "winter mix" as they call it. I haven't been able to play pond hockey for 2-3 years because it hasn't frozen enough. Not because it doesn't get cold but because the temperature is erratic.

Btw, On the way home from work today there was a caravan of those same trucks, plows down, moving absolutely nothing. It had been clear since before noon and this was at about 430. So all they're doing is slamming the iron into the asphalt destroying the roads. The problem here is (without getting into politics) in NJ we have the highest cost per mile of road out of the entire country. Our roads are miserable, and the gas tax just went up to "fund road projects". So there are a lot of levels to this mess.

That would have been worth taking a video and sending a copy to the mayor.

sounds similar to Michigan...except that we actually have significant amounts of snow.  You see trucks salting and plowing when its not that bad, or when its so cold that the salt does not even work, other wise nowhere to be seen....meanwhile, anything steel subjected to this environment gets totally anhilated by rust....so its all lose, no win.

lol absolutely "no win". Yeah it would be less aggravating if the people weren't in full panic over a dusting.

They use a lot of sand here on the back roads because it's cheap as well as salt, the sand does provide a bit more traction on the snow but it sucks when spring time comes around and the snow melts leaving the sand behind which then makes many turns pretty slick on a bike. It usually takes at least 2 good rain showers to wash that sand away before I can ride through turns with confidence.

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I agree with Terry, sipping a whiskey with cubes now!  However, I live in NW Colorado and the snowplow drivers are a Godsend!  Whenever we get a "severe storm warning", you will probably see the plows out BEFORE the snow falls spreading that nasty frame rot stuff so that a layer of ice does not form on the streets/highways and then get covered by the snow.  Had a nasty experience where there was only two inches of snow on the road but a layer of ice underneath and I was going down a steep hill here in town.  In the end, I slid through a stop sign bounced through a ditch and ended up with two ply separations on my pickup tires as well as two bent rims.  I wished they had spread that nasty stuff on that street before the snow!
