1985 CB650 carbs on a 1979 CB650?
« on: December 18, 2016, 02:38:26 PM »
I have a freshly rebuilt set of 1985 carburetors from a 1985 CB650. I was wondering if it was possible or worth trying to make these work on a 1979 CB650? I have the original 1979 CB650 carburetors but I've never rebuilt a set before.

If the carbs physically fit the intake size and spacing and the jet specs of the 85 are similar to the 79's - it could be worth the experiment - depending.

Doubt the spacing is the same. Not all SOHC4 650's have same intake spacing.

For a 1979-80 CB650 head, your best bet is using CB750K carburetors.

It was 1982? The 1985 is a DOHC motor.

Correct-o-mundo.

Looks like I will be attempting to rebuild the original ones then. I've rebuilt carbs for cars but I didn't know if I could transfer that knowledge to a motorcycle.

IF you have the 1979 head, you can use the stockers or 1969-76 CB750 carburetors, too.

Many years ago Soo's did a thread on all the diff carbs he made fit using diff intakes.
Seemed like a lot of work to get out of work.
