I "finished" this project on 12/22/16. She's all together and runs pretty well, but without a proper shakedown I can't really call her done. I'm absolutely sure stuff will pop up once I get some miles on her. Here in NH it's 18 degrees and snowing, so unless we get a decent, sunny 40+ day where the roads are mostly clear, this is likely where the project will stand until spring. Got her done just in time for... snow and bitter cold.  :-\

I'll get some better pics/vids when I can get her out of my garage, kind of a busy background and the lighting is a bit sterile. Dad has not seen it yet.

Beautiful bike and fantastic paint work.  People simply will not believe you when you painted it with spray cans. VMR is expensive but the results speak for themselves.  Great attention to detail.

I totally forgot this was a spray can paint job using VMR paint.  It looks spectacular in the photos.

Thanks guys. I had my doubts going into it, but the paint really did come out nice.

Wow what a great build. Looks great and your dad will be proud. I just was given a 73 CB350F that was in similar shape and your rebuild is an inspiration for me.

One question, you painted the air and battery box covers with the same paint as the gas tank. I figured they were metal, but mine are plastic for the side covers. Are yours original and metal? Or does the paint that you used work fine for both? I guess I just expect them to be made of metal but maybe they are plastic from the factory. I'm thinking mine might be an aftermarket part if plastic isn't the norm

My side covers are original and plastic. I used the same paint, but prepped them a little differently.

The metal bits (tank, fork cases):
-Sand with 60 grit down to metal with an orbital
-Filler where needed
-Epoxy primer
-High build primer
-Sand with 600 grit
-Paint
-Clear

 The plastic pieces
-Sand to plastic with 320 grit by hand
-Adhesion promoter (this was recommended by the mfr of the paint I used to be sprayed before the high build to help adhere to plastic)
-High build primer
-Sand with 600 grit
-Paint
-Clear

I didn't use epoxy on the side covers, but you could. Just follow the recommendations of whoever's paint/primer you use.

Now get to it!  :D

Took her out for her first spin today, 20 degrees out, but it was sunny and the roads are as clear as they've been in awhile. Just went around the block a few times.

Anyone think I should be worried about the smoke coming out of the tailpipe? It is a fresh rebuild and it's only 20 degrees out. I've only idled it a bit since the rebuild, this is it's first drive.

It wouldn't concern me given the temps and the fresh build. It looks white/gray which says combustion, not oil. Could easily be condensation.

No worries regarding smoke. My sohc4's still smoke like that in the cold temps. I rebuilt my 750 top end in October and I still get a little white smoke at startup in cold weather. It goes away once the engine is hot. Just condensation. It'll go away after a bit. Enjoy the bike!

No you CAN NOT have my pipes.
Well done on this project.  Mirrors the rebuild of my CB350F as well. I just not savvy enough to post each step like you have. Great job.
Don't think I will put mine up for bike of the month for a few months, not likely to have the same bike as a winner 2 months in a row.!
I have just finished mine at the end of March this year. (pics camera has wrong date) Here are a few pics you may relate to.  Cheers Rocket

Your bike looks great but not got original 4 into 4 exhaust pipes .... any reason other than the cost! I know mine cost me around $2300.  When we think that in '73  the whole bike  was around $1100 ($Aus)

Looks fantastic.

The cost is holding me back right now. I have every intention of getting the right pipes
