Santa pre-ran the course last week and drop this off, 1974 Yamaha DT250, 4k miles. more pics to come. Needs some TLC

is that oil inside your stator case(left side of the engine)behind the flywheel ? shouldn't be

Yes exactly,
Im not painting the frame just maybe just touch up on areas that had rust or exposed metal, cleaning surface rust on chrome things. I didnt have the original rear turn signals (CB500 early Honda ones

) NPOS are $100 each. Piston was slightly scuffed seizure, bore is ok so I bought a new Wiseco piston std size. Relacing all motor seals and gaskets.
-fork seals, swing arm bushings, throttle cable, tires-tubes, chain sprockets, etc.

Yes its not good, Im replacing both crack seals

Thanks MoMo, I have a case splitter, dont plan on taking the cases apart. Ive had the tool since I worked for Yamaha in the early 70's,

Yeah, but some things are hard to find, its nice you can get aftermarket piston. But the crank seals are becoming rare, the Yamaha groups are trying to someone to make double lip- double spring crank seals. There are single spring double lip seals, but not as good.

Pretty cool project there. When I arrived in Japan, while in the Air Force, Back in The day, I road tested a DT!, when they first came out and loved everything about it, but I just could not manage to make a deal for it and therefore could not afford afford it and ended up with a used CB72 Honda Hawk (250). In my case, it was probably good, that I ended up with the CB72 Honda. After all, it was best suited for my needs, at that time. Hoping that there will be a thread on getting this Yamaha back in action.

Nice bike. I recently picked up a 81 DT175 and know all about the NOS parts. I need an oil tank for my bike but good luck finding one

Yeah, need good crankseals, especially on a 2 stroke.

It's great mate, was stinking hot last week but cooled down on Saturday and will be nice today and tomorrow, but then it's heading over 90 again, so not as much fun, but we'll have good riding weather down here for another 5 months or so. I forgot to mention that I had a later DT250 with cantilever rear suspension in 1980, that was a great bike too! Cheers, Terry.

I didnt pay attention when I bought my tires(online) I got Dunlop 803fgp trials tire, there not D.O.T. I heard they were good tires for dirt but not sure how they will hold up on street.
