I got two interesting bikes to work on, I need a part.
« on: December 21, 2016, 04:39:17 PM »
My friend Leroy asked me to get these two Hondas running for him. The ME250 will get a lot of cosmetic help besides firing up but the he only want's the JC58 to run. It has no spark and after doing some diagnosing I found the coil to be open. I only have a week to either get it to run or not and then I have to take it back so he can load it and take it with him. Is there any chance one of you fellows has a spare complete stator plate or maybe a coil that has been removed? I have been searching the web for a couple of days and I can't find any information at all on these bikes as far as tech info or parts. I'm sure the reason is that they weren't sold here so any written material would be in Japanese and someone would have had to translate it and put it on a pdf file or something. Anyway while I see if someone has a part I am going to peel the old one apart and try to re-wind it. I would send it off to have it done but like I said I only have a week.

Here is the two motorcycles, I think they are way cool and I can't wait to ride the 250.

Here is the side of the engine with the electronics and the bad coil I need.

The cap also has a loose connection, do these unscrew from the lead?, I don't want to wreck it.

Check Yamiya.com . Maybe they might have your coil.

Vjmc email list might be possible to find someone who can help with parts or supplier...just holiday is likely to make getting parts quickly.  Vjmc email list is not part of the vjmc organization and costs nothing to join.

Thanks guys. The fellow that owns it has another in storage that he will get out and then I can switch out the whole works and send the bad coil to a professional to get it rewound.

Handy for him to have two...sorry for the delayed response.  Cool that you were able to work on some rare bikes.
I found it odd that the Selenium Rectifier was mounted on the outside of the frame...most bikes have them inside the frame.  The Selenium Rectifiers are not efficient nor are they long lasting, being problematic as they age...but correct parts that work trump parts that work better on restorations or original bikes.

Did you figure out if the spark plug cap wire was a screw in termination on the plug wire or it it is suppose to be molded on?
It doesn't look like a user serviceable part (internals of plug cap).

Hey GUTS...it is a very cool looking bike.  Wish I could help.

Good luck and post a follow up once it's running.
