Hondaman's book mentions how stout and overbuilt the stock swingarms are, yet I see folks replacing them.
Any thoughts on that?

I know McIntosh uses 6061 T6 for a lot of their swingarms. Pretty standard material. I think that swingarm is a lot more stout than the frame you are attaching it to. :D
Haha that's the truth!  Especially with stiffening up the forks too.  After talking to Karsten just decided to leave the frame alone for now.

Honestly the reason I wanted to swap the swingarm mainly because everything else is being done on the bike but strengthening the frame and I couldn't bring myself to paint the frame like I am with that stock swingarm.  This after I polish will really be perfect on the bike.  Along with the piggyback racetech shocks. This bike will be my shop bike and see some track time for fun.

Well, it certainly looks sweet. I'd lightly take the sharp edges off, and give it a polish. Can't wait to see this bike done.

Interesting design. Looks like "C" channel for the outside then the inner shock mount and the whole inside surface is another piece bent to match then all welded up. I would have never thought of building an arm that way. Seems like a lot of extra welding but then again, its Framecrafters, so not much room to question an authority like that.

with some of the earlier pics, he shared with me, it looked to be rectangle tubing.  Ive been very impressed by his work and in dealing with them.  Think I found a shop to help me with my h2 kawi when i get that going this fall.

Calj737 thanks again for your help on the wheels.  Amazing how quick it goes when you do not right!

Just have to do the seat bolt holes and then the frame is ready to paint.  Hoping to knock it out this weekend

I'm using that speedo as well, very nice. That's the biggest magnetic tray I've ever seen. Didn't know they came that large.

Are you talking about the surface the swing arm is on top off? It looks more like stone to me for welding against and having a perfectly flat (fly cut) and true surface. If it were magnetic, you'd have a terrible time welding on it. The magnetic field would play hell with your arc and you don't want to weld against a magnet anyway as the heat ultimately damages the magnet.

It could also be a piece of steel thats been milled/fly cut for the same purposes of flatness for welding/fitting.

Looks like a machinist slate. A perfectly true surface.
You are a machinist, why am I telling you this?
I was talking about the magnetic tray on the side of his toolbox. All of mine are one quarter of that size

You are busting this thing out in record pace and full class! Well done on the progress and details.

Thank you and again thank you for your help!  Been tough with my full time job, my 13 month old and other bikes I'm working on.  I try to go out for 2-3 hours every night get things done.  I need to have it wrapped up next month visually so i can try to get it into the Handbuilt show.  He needs a pic of it to decide on.  Then I have about a month to wire it and work the kinks out.  Most of my motor should be back in 2 weeks.  Mike is wrapping up porting my head and the rods should be done getting balanced & shot peened soon too and my cylinder is almost done.

Other piece i'm waiting on is race tech to finish my shocks.  They are now saying the end of the month.  Which puts it at about 2.5 months to build my shocks.

I, too, have fallen prey to the Snap-On demon. I spent way too much on things that would have been cheaper at Harbor Freight,  like creepers, welding helmets, etc. Sure, I love my Snap-On ratchets and wrenches, but there are somethings it's just not cost-effective to spend on that name for.

agreed, i have found moments of joy when i actually use a tool i thought i would use daily.  I  bought a hose clamp tool years ago and crack a smile the two times i've used it recently.

Oh...a warning on that Nason...It will run on ya.  That stuff is pretty low solids.  Let if flash off for quite some time between coats.  It really is thin.  4 coats min with the Nason over that flake.

According to the scale that you have provided for me on that rear rectangular area, the numbers come up right around 4.75" tallx 4.25"wide
