Gonna polish all of it but will probably do the triples in satin black.  My shocks should be here in a couple days then I can determine that

Looking good!!!
If you haven't torqued down your head yet (it doesn't look like it), you might want to consider pulling the cylinders back off and putting some heat shrink or painting over those A.P.E. studs, the ones that are exposed to the elements will rust and you will not be able to un-notice it.

I am jonesing for my CB400's........
I may cry if I have to put those cylinder back on.  Compressing the rings was not fun!

Not the same material.
I've heard from others who have installed the A.P.E. hardened studs that they will rust if they get wet.

There are some plastic ring compressors used for small engine repair and two of these kits at about $9 each might be worth the investment to make things easier.  They are made of red plastic.
Some have used wide worm clamps but taking them apart to pull them out after fitting the pistons into the cylinders are fiddly.  The red plastic ones have a finger that projects out from the rings and you wrap a rubber band around that to hold the compression.  To remove you pull the rubber band clamping it together and then spread it enough to slip off and out of the way.

At factory, probably did it by hand and skills developed from years of doing it and doing it quickly.

A paint or powder coat would work best on the APE studs... A good high solids paint capable of high heat will provide good protection.

Looking great. Get busy on that paint.   :)  Look into Evercoat Slick Sand.  It is a sprayable polyester you use on top of bodywork.  It will replace the multiple applications of primer and spotting in stuff.  Much more stable in the long run.

I'll have to give that a shot.  I use their fillers and love them.

Bodywork and paint is on deck once the seat pan is shipped out!  Getting there

Correct I'm waitinf on my gold valves to rebuild the forks.  Once the shocks are on I'll decide if I'm polishing the fork lowers or going satin black.  Leaning towards polished lowers and black triples

It's eh right now.  Opening it up little by little until I like the end result.  I'll reveal once it doesn't look like a 8 yr old hit with some air tools

Both great products to go over your bondo work.  Finish the bondo in 80g..then spray a few coats of this. block with 180...final prime. sand with 500gt and paint.  That stuff really takes away the back and forth process of prime...sand...fill...prime sand...repeat.

Alright got to where I'm happy with the sprocket cover.  It's going to get vapor blasted like the rest of the motor is.  The holes I spaced around the structural bracing on the backside.  I'm happy with how it turned out. Also did the last layers for the seat pan.  Going to trim it tomorrow and put some nut serts in it and off to Chicago to get some leather and alcantara

Agreed, good thing I hit the starter with the polisher quick!  That oil pump is so clean I could eat off it now.

It is noticeably lighter.  Not that it was that heavy to begin with.  Trying to get this baby as light as possible.  Been trash talking my buddy who just built a kz650.  That thing will be a lead brick compared to this.
