I've been alittle lazy on the 400 lately.  My exhaust shipped out of japan today and I've been working to get my brakes knocked out.  Hit a snag with the rear brake pivot clearing the swingarm and my brake rod being too short.

After a couple nights staring at it in passing, I bent the brake pivot to be centered between the frame and swingarm, and will run a cb750 brake rod as they are about 2-3" longer.  Front caliper is soaking in some penetrating oil so i can get the piston out and then i'll get it on.

I wet sanded the tank and tail and will be hitting it with some clear as soon as I get my tail lite tinted and ready for clear.  Then i'm onto wiring the bike and getting the carbs done.

So this beauty showed up from japan.  Absolutely gorgeous!  I'm going to get their larger baffle for it and bend an aluminum bracket for the rear hanger.

Seems like that oil cooler is going to get scorched by the header pipes while it blocks the majority of the airflow to the head. It looks too low and it's too big man. I like the concept but I don't think this is going to work out.

This is a tried approach for oil coolers on any of the inline fours.  Plenty of clearance from the headers.  Airflow is fine and the oil cooler is the key part to keeping oil temp down.  Go look at the oil coolers on most bikes.  It's in the same position.  Triton triumphs, my rc51, etc.  This is also the same style kit cycle x offers, mc-again, rock city racers.

This has been a tried and tried system that both Kevin's run on their modified 400's and I believe kaz ran this style on his z1 beaters.

Does the oil cooler fit if you flip it so the bracket is on the bottom? That position would be more or less identical to where it is on my air cooled CB750F and CBX. Not trying to break your balls, at all, it just looks too low there.

The only comment I'd make about the oil cooler is it is often installed with the lines from the bottom, not the top. Seen it both ways, but more seem to route from below.

Like you, I think the orientation and location will be perfectly fine.

I actually really like the height of it.  It leaves me enough room to add a steering stabilizer down the road if i choose to.  Thanks Kevin on where you found your clamps, I'm going to add some down the road.
