eBay oil pump kit
« on: December 28, 2016, 04:58:44 PM »
I was lookin on eBay earlier and saw a kit for a 750 oil pump (vital motorsport) with all the orings, springs, stopper, and seal, I was wondering if anyone has used one of these kits before? I'm about to put my 750 back together and was thinking about using this kit on a low milage oil pump I plan on using. Any helpful hints or suggestions on freshing an old oil pump would be appreciated also. thanks

Do you have a link, probably one made by a member here Elan that everybody thinks is a nice kit. You will be getting some feedback soon.

There is an old thread about oil pump restore.
You need this too

The screws holding the pump together will probably be a problem to remove. I had to drill the heads off. Use impact screw driver did not work for me since I did not want to hammer too much. Drill heads off is very safe and easy.

The 3 bolts with X-heads needed to get the heads drilled off. New M6 x 60mm countersunk allen. Grinded 2 mm off to 58mm. Still waiting for them when taking the photo. (Temporarily keeping it together with hex bolts)

The pain somewhere is the inner oil seal that sit very hard. It must be removed by brutal force and not harming the alu housing.

I have used a small 1/8" ball dremel bit to cut several small indentations behind the seal. You can then push it out with a very small punch etc.

Thanks for the replys guys! Pewe I took the pump apart yesterday using a cordless impact driver, the screws came out quite easy with the cordless gun. thanks for the links as well they have helped me come up with a good game plan. I also dusted off hondamans book and did some reading

So I take it this is a worthy kit? Is it from the forum member Elan? I just didn't want to buy some eBay junk that would later come back to haunt me.

Next time you have to remove those tough JIS flat-head screws, try using an electric cordless impact driver in reverse with the correct bit. I've found it to be WAY more effective than a hammer driven impact driver and doesn't require any risk of damage that swinging a hammer can cause. I honestly couldn't believe how effective it was the first time I tried it out.

Yes, not correct bit/screwdriver is usually the problem with the X heads.
Always wrong type and drilling machine will be next step.
