See the coolest things while out on a ride
« on: December 29, 2016, 11:27:38 AM »
I'm on break until the 4th, so I spent my morning out riding around.

Went to all those places that I normally pass on my way home - places that look interesting but I just don't have the time to see.

I lived in Bellevue Wa for almost 10 years, thought I knew it like the back of my hand.  I saw a neighborhood today tucked away by the big rail trestle that I had no idea existed.  Woodridge I think it was called, cool place - definitely worth the 10 minute ride.

Saw another place in Newcastle that I've been itching to find.  The original rail station house.  Built in the late 1800's to support the coal industry.  Newcastle in their incredible wisdom allowed it to completely deteriorate - now it sits in a tangle of blackberries, totally and utterly ruined.  I'm guessing some condo's will be thrown up (I mean that in the sense of illness) in it's place.  But it was still cool to see the house, ride on the windy back roads that only a motorcycle can negotiate.

Ahhh...Woodridge.  Now your in my stomping grounds.  My parents still live in same house they bought in 1970 near Bellevue College.
Used to play in the woods around Richards Creek as a kid.  Kelsey Creek and Bannerwood parks.
It sure has changed in 40 years.

I drive part-time for Uber in Chicago. I've given over 4,000 rides since May 2015.

I've lived in or within a couple blocks of the city since 1990. I've been driving in it since 1983, and I still find cool places that I never knew about. For example this remaining piece of a 100+ year old German Catholic church located in the near south side neighborhood of Pilsen.

I love finding new places with cool buildings.

Wait what?, a bustling metropolis like bellevue doesn't have a historical society to conserve a centuries old building?

HAHA...there's little to conserve  ::) ;D  thats why all the old buildings are now multi-use high rises.
The floating bridge wasn't done until 1940, and most of the east side of the lake (Eastgate, Lake Hills, Newport Hills) was affordable GI housing.
No longer the peaceful 1920's (1500 residents) farming town it once was....

I love the backroads for the same reason - four lanes are for four wheels.
