Progress Joe. Every thing is a new thing. Have you ever started a CB77 kicking forward?

Who's doing your PC?

Hey Ron!  How goes it with Phaedrus?  Let me know when you are ready to get the engine back into place :)  Have not started with the forward kick yet.  The engine was locked up a and wouldn't kick over...but maybe it was just the kickstart mechanism (or maybe both).

Last PC vendor I used was Indy Powder Coating.  I'm guessing we'll go back to them as they did a bang up job on my Yamaha.

There are possibly ebay sources that are cheaper and you could ask the VJMC email group if anyone has a kicker shaft they could part with.  The VJMC email group is not associated with the VJMC club site other than many are members of both. The email list is free and low traffic. Build a filter for it to put it in a email folder so it is in an area it doesn't clutter your primary email inbox...with any good email program or site can handle this thing.
It is a CB77 and not a CB78 or is the 77 and 78 only on the CA models?
More than one member has had serious part issues from supplier who swore up and down their parts were correct, much to many owner's frustration.  Hopefully you won't be dealing with this from DSS.

I found a kickstarter gear on Ebay.  NOS sealed in a bag for a lot less.  RAF122S is correct about parts sometimes not being correct.  I purchased a NOS shifter from a guy on Ebay and he gave the correct part number, but it does not fit.  These were famous for the hole where the linkage goes to elongate and make for sloppy gear selection.

I'll keep an eye out on ebay for a bit.  Also gonna post a message over on the 305 forums to see what comes up.

Problem can be the seller is just going by what their supplier tells them it is xyz when it is yxq instead. Sometimes stuff is just labeled wrong or pushed on a bike part from another model of that descendant.
The S90 parts on ebay are largely S90Z related, especially coming from the far East unless maybe some in Japan that are OEM Honda are legit if the Honda part number is a match.
The S90 was stopped being sold in the US in '69 but lived on in the rest of the world for far longer.

Nice find and very unmolested unlike bikes we get in the UK... I recently got a stash of bikes and parts mainly Black Bomber CB450K0 and CB72/77  .. I started selling the CB72 ones including early contra-rotating speedo/Tacho and steel cover on the crankcase top  to fund my other restorations... ... then realised I had a full  1964 CB72 bike less fenders so decided to build a bike !!... so I had to rebuy those parts again via my pal in Japan  !! A long term project. That RH cover and kickstart mech. is the 'Achilles heel' of the CB72/77. The alloy cover cracks around the point where the shaft pivots.

I learned from a member on  Honda305.com that you can do a great mod using a Kawasaki KZ650 cam chain idler wheel and use it on the CB72/77 spring loaded tensioner that is normally $$$$$$ if you are lucky enough to find one. The Kawasaki wheel is a metal sprocket with rubber cushioning  onto a needle roller bearing... brilliant design... (different size bearing to Honda shaft though but correct size is readily  available).

This  is the assembly I bought as a donor  ...it yielded two suitable sprockets so I even got a spare and they accepted Best Offer of £25 !

Very cool info, great to see the  info out there.  We are doing our best to keep this a stock honda parts build (as much as we can help it).  I just got a good deal on a NOS kick start Gear from a vendor...we'll see if it's true or not once it drops at my door :)

Luckily my case cover is good with no sign of cracks or wear at the pivot points.

Cheers, Joe

The chrome shop, Rock Island Illinois. They did a rolled rim for me and have stripped chrome from a lot of parts. They have a web page.

Thank you for the recommendation.  I'll likely be hitting them up for a few parts.  We may try and save both the front and rear rims if the rust isn't too deep

Little more progress tonight.  Should have all the pieces for powder coating set aside soon.  Progress is slow as I'm working on 3 bikes at once  ::)

Couple things on the list I need to get figured out.

- Trying to decide about rear shocks as they aren't in that bad of shape...and I think remembering Old Scrambler mentioning they can be rebuilt.  Will do some research on if it's worth the trouble.

Chain Guard seems to have a "tear" in the metal.  I can easily bend it back so it mates up nicely.  Probably should find someone to repair it before powder coating.

Then I need to figure out what's up with the Footpeg Brackets.  The Right one sure looks bent from hard spill at some point. The left one seems to have a bit of a bend as well...I can't imagine this was bent like this from stock.

Cheers Joe

Nice project-

If you haven't discovered it yet, those banjo bolts are the screened fuel inlet to the carbs. Did they come with new fiber washers?

Those banjos are from my carbs. The washers seem OK and I reused them, haven't fueled it up yet to see if they leak. Hopefully today, I got a new battery this morning.

The footpeg brackets are a well known weak spot: combined with the narrow centrestand that causes fallovers on soft footing (and lack of a sidestand) ... and the very strong solid steel footpegs, these are usually found bent and often cracked. Dropping at speed usually snaps them apart. If they break off, moving the pegs to the front (uncomfortable) position is an option if you can find or make the different shift linkage needed.
Sobered up and realized these are the passenger pegs, driver pegs are foldups. So with that broken you just have a problem with passenger pegs.
I see the sidestands available from Vietnam but haven't got one, not too trustful. And wondering where it might attach.
