first 450 photo
« on: December 31, 2016, 06:54:26 PM »
Just found these photos buried in computer never-neverland of the first 450 I restored after my wife passed away.  Got it as a non-runner basket case.  Hope the two photos show up.  Turned out to be a real beauty, wish I had kept it....Larry

Thank you,  sure wish it were still with me after seeing the two photos.   Think i sold it for 1300 and another basket case 450 nine years ago.  Sold the green basket case for 1200 after restoration.  This was a 71 if my memory serves me well...Larry

That is a truly impressive bike Larry, back in the 1970's before I joined the Army my mate Ocker had a red one just like it and of course neither of us had a license, but that didn't stop us riding it like we stole it.

I remember looking over his shoulder at the speedo and seeing 110 MPH one night as the night sky was lit up by the flashing blue lights behind us, we got away, which made that bike all the more impressive! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yeah, but the downside is that more people die on red bikes than any other colour.......... ;D

and the "fenders" on it were most impressive.   Thanks for the compliments guys, didn't realize at the time that it was a keeper.  Oh well....Larry

That happens Larry, if I could have afforded to keep many of my past bikes, I would have. Move on and buy another one mate, that's what I did with my Sportster. ;D

no need to buy another as one that nice would cost two to three times as much, plus I wouldn't have the satisfaction of build accomplishment.  Also, I have had 7 other 450's since.  Just reminiscing.  Of course, I could contact Fenders and buy the truly most impressive bike ever made....Larry

Ha ha, best of luck with that mate, plus you'd need a fork lift to take it down from Fender's pedestal........... ;D

Thanks David and Happy and healthy New Year to you. That was only built 9 years ago though-first bike bought after my wife passed on.  There hadn't been any bikes for the time we were together. The purchase was a way to get me out of the initial period of grief.  15 years as a mechanic/service manager, 22 years of marriage, now back to bikes.

Nice restoration Larry, those are an awesome bike. Can you imagine if Honda built a 650 or 750 version of that bike? My brother was disappointed when he traded his 450 in on a K4 750. He expected the 750 to be significantly faster but it  just seemed a little faster than the 450.

Well to be fair Don, Honda did pump the 450 out to 500, and they turned it into a dog............ ;D

That is an understatement Terry, the 500 was a POS compared to the "most impressive Honda ever made".  Not sure what Honda did but the 450 was waaay more fun to ride than the 500.  Of course, there was always the TX500 :'(

Ha ha, I owned a TX500 Larry, I paid $450 for it in November 1977 and had the choice of that or a Ducati 450 Silver Shotgun for the same money. Yes yes, I am an idiot, that Duke is now worth 25K(+) and the Yam is worth about a dollar a square foot, but I loved that Yam, and even though they were considered an engineering failure, they were still better built than bevel drive Ducati's.............. ;D
