WI Winter Ride

Got in a 90 minute New Years Day ride here in WI. We had only one real snowfall of 8 inches a few weeks ago. Then some warm days have melted a lot of it. Could not resist the 38 degrees. I have to be honest though, I took the Wing. I would not put the 750's through this cold. :) No heated grips, no heated gloves and no heated seat. It was great to get out! I do feel bad for the snowmobilers as the trails have only been open a couple weeks and now closed again. Supposed to get rain in my area tonight. Dang...meant to put this in "other bikes"...my bad.

No snowmobile suit Stev-o. I do wear insulated jeans that I use for deer hunting. It really was not that bad with the full fairing. We had some freezing rain last night. School buses were 2 hours late this morning. Now we are on the slide to spring.

I bought a pair last Fall anticipating cold weather but have not had the need to use them yet. However, Arctic air on the way...

Grew up here in New England and Winter is no time for riding motorcycles IMO, but then again I absolutely hate the damn season. The trees know the deal. If you see leaves on the trees, time to go outside and enjoy yourself.

If my Kawasaki Concours was stored at home I would have been out new years day, it was pretty nice out and close to 40ยบ. Its slumbering for a long winters nap in a nice heated shop on the south side of Milwaukee along with the 750. I kept the 550 at home to complete v2 of the bike (just about done).

 Friend of mine was riding around one winter a little on a Kaw 750, no not a triple, and the road salt back then that was used and maybe still is really did a number on his aluminum and other metal.

Living in WI I for sure know about the salt. I have seen the roads white and heavy with it. We had rain after that one snowfall and the roads were clear. As a rule I always wipe it down after these winter rides too.

I have ridden in that kind of weather with friends, here in eastern Iowa.  But, we were riding bikes that could generate enough electricity to make our Gerbing jackets and pants warm.  I rode a VFR and friends were riding Kawi sportbikes.  I am sure my old Hondas would work in the cold temps, but not me.(battery would be dead before I got a mile from home on these old bikes)
Looks like it was a great ride.

I've ridden to work when it was 40 degrees before but having some wind protection is a HUGE help. Also having a balaclava head and neck cap under my helmet works well too. Then heating my leather gloves on the engine, left while I'm moving and right while sitting at a stop light keeps my hands from freezing. As long as it's sunny and dry.

But that Wing looks damn comfy to ride even at those temps! We're in a low 30's cold and sunny weather pattern this week. If it holds for the weekend I may fire the bike up and take it for a spin. This is my first winter just storing and winterizing it.

Well, today in WI we have 5 degrees with wind chill well below that. I think the Wing will stay in the heated shop today :)

Wing or not, that's some gonads! :D
I have to admit: when it drops below 45, I've got my Lowers on my Vetter, and am enjoying that ride. They are GREAT.
