Yeah, I see that the blog you took this from is already mired in a massive argument about loud pipes, so really not a good idea to post it here unless you just wanted to sit back with some popcorn and watch the fights..............

I know the open baffle Kerker 4 into1 my kids K3 had really annoyed my neighbors, shortly before selling it I was vac syncing the carbs and of course had to rap the throttle a few times to make sure all was well. A few days later though my neighbor across the street had a friend of his come over with his pick up truck with its loud glass pack mufflers just setting in his driveway revving the engine for about 5 mins, came back the next day and did it again. Nobody was under the hood checking anything, they just sat there revving the engine for no apparent reason. I thought it was odd but it didn't bother me at all which I guess explains why he had his friend come back a second time and do it again because he didn't get the reaction from me he was expecting and that's when it dawned on me, I just smiled and said "oops"

That's pretty petty Scott, the fact that they're happy to have a friend with loud pipes purposely upset their other neighbours just to get back at you shows what creeps they are. The Bassani exhaust on my Sportster is loud, but I don't rap the throttle in my driveway or raaaaap it up my street, but I see car drivers intentionally moving out of my way when they hear me coming, unlike the amount of times I've had car drivers attempt to merge into my lane when I'm on my "whisper quiet" Yamaha FJR1300 with it's stock pipes and they don't know I'm there. If the only life loud pipes save is mine, I'll be happy.

  I was working on a 750 once at home and running it kind of hard up and down my country road to test with a louder exhaust. Welllll I came back after a run and my older gent neighbor a couple houses west was waiting for me in my garage with a baseball bat.  I did not know him well but I apologized and we talked it out and ended up becoming pretty good friends. His Son later told me he had some mental issues which I was able to deduce. There used to be a motorcycle salvage yard down the road that drove him nuts with bikes and I put him over the edge again     Loud pipes might get your head bashed in

We've all heard the "saves lives" BS before but I was driving my truck a few weeks ago and actually heard the loud HD bike bpass me on the right side before I saw him. Hmmm....

WASHINGTON — New hybrid and electric cars are required to make noise when traveling at low speeds so that pedestrians, especially those who are blind or have poor eyesight, will hear them coming, under a new rule released Monday by the Obama administration.

The new rule could help prevent about 2,400 pedestrian injuries a year once all hybrids on the road are equipped to make noise, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Hybrid vehicles use both a gasoline engine and an electric motor. Electric motors, however, make very little noise compared to gasoline and diesel engines.

The rule requires hybrid and electric vehicles to make audible noise when traveling in reverse or forward at speeds up to about 19 mph. The sound alert isn’t required at higher speeds because other factors, such as tire and wind noise, provide warning.

“We all depend on our senses to alert us to possible danger,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “With more, quieter hybrid and electrical cars on the road, the ability for all pedestrians to hear as well as see the cars becomes an important factor of reducing the risk of possible crashes and improving safety.”

Manufacturers have until Sept. 1, 2019, to equip all new hybrid and electric vehicles with sounds that meet the new federal safety standard. Half of new hybrid and electric vehicles must be in compliance one year before the final deadline.

Oh lol the ultra quiet electric vehicle problem!!!  Love it.  Couple years back the local news station held a contest when the city was thinking about having auto dealers add a noise maker to EV's and they wanted a sound sample.

The winner submitted the jetson's future space car noise.

Loud pipes really do save lives though.
My buddy had a big straight pipe chevy his wife could hear coming a mile away.  The sound gave enough warning it was time for her boyfriend to leave before hubby got home

Good point mate, my youngest son was hit by an electric car in Paris a couple of years ago, then the Frog driving it was stupid enough to get out of his toy car and abuse him, which turned out to be a big mistake...........

The neighbor is a relatively new neighbor and actually seems like a decent young man from the few time's I've talked to him. The kerker that was on my kids 750 was indeed rather obnoxiously loud even for me, earplugs were a must otherwise it would leave your ears ringing after a long ride so I can easily see how it pissed my neighbor off which is why it didn't bother me when his friend sat in the driveway revving his engine even after I figured out why he was doing it but I guess by not letting it bother me just pissed my neighbor off more because he was obviously looking for a reaction from me that he didn't get. Oh well. He's got more problems than me now because last summer we had a new neighbor move in a few house down and this new neighbor just happens to own an HD with some gawd awful loud straight pipes and he doesn't seem timid at all in letting everyone else know it. Late this last summer he was having tuning issues with it, I don't know what it was but it was clear from the sound of it that it wasn't firing just right and he was revving the daylights out of it in an attempt to get it to clear up, I don't know what the redline for an HD is but he was winding that v-twin up tight. He'd shut it down and work on it for a bit then fire it up and wind it up tight again..... and again and again still sounding horrible due to its misfire and hearing him getting pissed because he couldn't figure it out. I was too busy in my garage working on my own stuff that day to care but I can only imagine the fit my neighbor across the street was having.
