Indian is back into racing
« on: January 05, 2017, 09:13:59 PM »
Met the father of Jared Mees, former Grand National Flat Track Champion.  His father told me that his son will be fully sponsored by Indian for the coming season.  He has left Harley.  Great to see Indian back as a street bike, tourer and now racer. 8) ...Larry

Thanks for the links Eric.  It was a happenstance meeting at work that I spoke with his father.  He had an Indian jacket, I asked if he rode and the conversation took off.  I don't follow racing but it was strange to find that this area has some of the top flat trackers(non of them are Amish BTW ::)).  .....Larry

At one time the Flint Michigan area was a major bastion of great flat track racers back in the day. Many big names in the sport. They were called the "Michigan Mafia".

I had seen a video, just a few months ago, where they had taken a Race Prepped Indian out and made a few laps with it. Great to know they ware following through and putting it "Out There". Thanks for sharing this Larry and Thanks for the other input folks.  ;)

Seems like this rural mostly Amish area has displaced Flint...Was Jay Springsteen from that area?  He has been a mentor and good friend of Mees even though there must be at least  20 years age difference...

I'm not real up on the Flat Track Racing, but back in the early 1960s' we had a friend who raced a BSDA Gold Star 500cc and he went to Louisiana a lot. maybe Shreveport or Baton Rouge? Anyone know about where they raced in Louisiana?  That Gold Star was a runner now and the reverse cone megaphone on that big single, sounded bad!

Indian has a good chance at dominating the GN1 (twin) class this year.  They have the top riders: Jared Mees, Brad Baker and Bryan Smith.  The bike is wickedly fast on the dirt, too.  Harley is going to have to play catch-up, and Kawi is going to need a new rider.

Considering the bike has only been in development a year or so, that's be awesome.  Jared's father was really pumped as to the potential....Larry
