oil gallery bung
« on: January 11, 2017, 01:14:27 PM »
I have managed to lose the oil gallery bung that is fitted to the transmission side oil gallery just below and forward from the main shaft oil gallery , are they available, or what makes a suitable replacement .
thanks Kerry (uk)

If for a 750, it looks like this. No longer available, but wouldn't be difficult to make from silicon. It measures approximately 5mm deep into the hole. It's 10mm (dia)x 1mm then steps down to 9mm (dia) x 4mm.

I think you definitely need this gallery plug. Hondaman talks about the importance of renewing the little o-ring under the counter shaft bearing holder to maintain oil pressure to the clutch & transmission. I think you would be losing some oil pressure without this plug also.

Can't help you with an OEM replacement, but I was definitely paranoid about this -- I've heard of people modifying rubber stoppers to work. The problem is it can only go a few mm in, because the gallery joins another right inside.

If you've got a drill press it would be fairly simple to make a timber 'mold' using a couple of spade bits. Lightly grease, then just silicone away!

The rubber plug is redundant, as the shifter cover and gasket provide a positive seal. My K1 motor doesn't have the plug, nor my K7 motor.

The rubber bung first appears in the K6 parts fiche. Your K7 may not have it, but it is a listed part for the K7. I see your point Scottly, but I'm still going to leave it in.

The rubber plug is redundant, as the shifter cover and gasket provide a positive seal. My K1 motor doesn't have the plug, nor my K7 motor.

And fortunately, it's just under the shifter cover, so worst case one could try without it, and if it weeps some oil, deal with it later.
