Can any one give me current day brand and paint code for 1971 Candy Ruby Red .

My painter said he can get pint a lot cheaper and better quality than the the regular vintage paint suppliers like ColorRite.
My other option is to get a part and he can scan it to get the right color.

Sherwyn Williams had candy blue green. I shot a NOS side cover with the color gun and it read out 1969 Honda cb750.

Don't know if this helps..but we used to call that color "Candy Apple Red"..back in the day. Think you can still get paint in that color. Also used to get from either Ditzler (now PPG)..or RM (Rinshed-Mason). Think RM is now out of business tho.

I did one and bought a kit from Don dirtbiker. It came out great! Getting the right red is a PITA. I just got it from him.

No magical paint code per say that a painter can use. Have to find a modern paint that is close, scan the color as you mentioned if you find something not faded or buy a kit from someone with the magic brew ready to go. There is info out there as to the base color etc.

Hey Chewy....is that what you used on the tank set you sold me? It was just base and clear, right??
Some candy paint was 2 colors...

Candy apple red from House of Kolor is a perfect match to Honda's candy ruby red (I used it on one of my sandcasts and was able to compare it to an original tank). Make sure you go with a fine-grain silver metallic. I have had so-called paint kits for vintage Hondas come with metallic paint with incorrect grain size!

Not bright like a candy apple red...

I saw a newer mazda today that had an awesome candy red. If I wasn't doing a correct number restoration I'd look for that code. I'd bet it's a two stage paint, cheaper and easier.

that's not a paint code. That's Honda's number designation for candy ruby red ,if your correct, but that number means nothing to a painter trying to mix up a can of ruby red as it is not a formula code. That's like my touch up cans from honda labeled candy tone orange, r2c, .

what you've been told here are the options. There is no paint code, no honda formula number for a painter to mix. Plus, honda colors back in the day that were candy colors required specific base, and sometimes a middle coat to achieve the desired final color.
Example, lubritech was an official licensed Honda paint manufacturer for honda way back in the day. They actually produced spray paint in cans . This is a pic of their paint "schedule" back in the day. Notice what was used to get the desired final color. Notice, no clear coat. Google it yourself if you want a little history, lubritech paint schedule.

Be careful, just as I was exiting the body shop world in 2017 PPG was already issuing warnings about spraying Four Stage/Quadcoats that were exclusively coming from new Mazdas.

Not helpful at all. R4C is the Honda code and means nothing to a painter mixing colours.

actually, back in the day, it was this. Todays paints get cleared.

A candy paint is a see-through paint over a metallic paint.
in case of Candy ruby red it is a kind of Bordeau red see trough paint over silver metallic.
The effect cannot be obtained using a single paint like a red metallic paint.

Candy apple red (for instance from house of colour) doesn't give you the proper red you are looking for in a candy ruby red. You will have to mix in a darker candy red in order not to end up too orange.

Scanning the colour will give a result but it will be a single red metallic paint. Not the effect you are looking for if it has to resemble the original colour.
Sometimes a pearl effect is added to try to get more close, but this doesn't work either.

Yes, the original colours are proper tricoats and matching them will be difficult.

also with a true candy final coat, the number of layers also determines the color...the more coats, the darker the color gets. Also why that makes it impossible to repaint one part and not repaint other parts...

And the sealer. I did a lot of automotive refinishing insurance quality work for a number of years and went to quite a few PPG and DuPont classes. The way the robots spray some of it, especially with tricoats, the colour of the sealer underneath can dictate the colour match, in addition to the number of coats.

Yeah, it's impossible to only do one part. You may as well do all of it, which isn't too bad on a bike that is just the tank and two covers. On a car, it can be a real pain in the ass to blend.
