Points hardware
« on: January 24, 2017, 05:21:15 PM »
Good evening folks,

Does anyone know what size the tiny hex bolt and nut are that attach the coil leads to the breaker points? Need to get some tools for replacing these. Thanks.

Just found out that I had a socket to fit these hiding in my workbench drawer. Turns out to be 5.5mm. Kinda odd size, no?

Yes and no. 5.5 MM seems to always be included in a decent metric 1/4" socket set or metric mini wrench set. Not sure the significance, but I am sure the internet knows.

I have found that a six point 5.5mm socket will also turn the hexagonal type latches on early aftermarket gas caps. So yes, they definitely have a purpose !
