Didn't really know where to put this. Technically it is not a SOHC-4.I found these while I was looking for some other pictures. Don't know whether these have been on here before...

Benelli Sei motor in a SOHC4 frame?

I'm not an authority, but it looks to me like, you are right. Looks to be a Very well done swap in. With an equally nicely done 750 Four Motor, that would be a Fine looking one. Not saying it isn't a fine job as is, just seems kinda strange, to me, to see another brand of motor in that frame, is all.

It is a 750. Benelli based the 750 six on the Honda 500 Four copy they did. Then Honda copied some things back from Benelli, when they did the CBX, like the jackshaft to drive the alternator and reduce total engine width
I don't know how it runs, it is not mine. Assume it does well, the whole thing looks well executed.

dont think Honda ever took anything from the italy bikes..it vas a one vay copy..funny thing is that cbx have both crank ends end blind..the ignision  module also runs on a shaft behind the crank..so the engine are almost as small/wide as a 750..but you have real good food room to thange gear..as all stuf is pulled long back..far better then sohc and dohc..bikes..and a lot better then benelli did..bu jus copu a 500..and blow it to 750...and later to 900..but stil only 2 valve pr cylender

The fact is, that one of the Honda CBX engine design features that is always praised, is the use of a jackshaft to drive the alternator, instead of driving it from the end of the crankshaft. Thus reducing engine width. Benelli did that in 1974 with the 750 Sei. Now, you can argue that Honda did not copy that, fine.
Also, few people know that Honda was NOT the first one to have a 6-cylinder GP race bike, like everybody always claims.
MV Agusta had a six in the late 50s and if you look at some of the pictures of that bike you wonder how Honda came up with the idea for the RC164/RC166.
I just remember in the early 60s, the Japanese car and bike manufacturers were notorious for copying other designs.

Honda got the most from germany NSU DKW.. vas the erly inspiration for Honda..and a lot of others..like the italian vho got all their engine teknologi from germany under ww2..
thek fiat..most of their produkts vas bosch deseined(under licens) fuel systems elektric diesel pumps/injektors gearboxes..friderikshafen zahnradwerk-ZF
but ok kopy and licens verk is not the same thing..but still the germens made it ..not the italians

but that sales story that the cbx is close to the gp bikes..is just a sale fiktion for the usa marked.
.the cbx engine is just a dohc 4 valve engine..prinsip the same as the 900cc 4 and the 750..nothing exitic gp in it..its a nice engine but only 1100 cc and 105 hp vas just the start..but sadly they never vent on optimating it..

I totally agree with this. Honda was already working on the DOHC-4s when they got wind that Kawasaki was working on an in-line six (KZ1300).
So, a crush program was started to make a 6 and they used the DOHC 750/900 as a base. The CB900F even has the same bore as the CBX.
The CBX is always praised by fans of having had the shortest development time of any bike. Reason was, half the work on the engine was already done.

yes it are a strange mix ..peapel vho calls a cbx for advanced have not been in one..its simpliy... just more of evrything...more valvets morr cylenders and more kaburettors and a ekstra ignision system..so it have 3 sub systems use 3 dobbel coils..just like a sohc use 2..so in prinsip simpel stuff..no magig..
but still..just start one..drive aut on the open road..and vhen it hits 5000 rpm. and goes up to 10,000,,,..the magig thing happens..the roar and happy rpms just make you smile from ear to ear...

i like it as most parts like brakesystem forks hveels..all is from the late 70 erly 80..a bit more simpel and no elektronic..just mecanic parts vho can be reparied use tools..not computers..one of the last bikes vho is possibel to repair at home..use relative few special tools..and not wrapped in plastic..

I totally agree that the ride, does things for ya. Sure used to get Me going, to ride mine.  8)

For years, we have seen things improved and updated so much on cars, that it has slowed up what some folks can do themselves and stopped the less experienced folks. Some  motorcycles have also gone that way. I can see where some Improvements can take away from what we can work on, on them, but as the improvements come along, those of us, who like to do all we can ourselves, will be slowly losing out and who knows how long the older motorcycles will be "Out There", for us to pick up on, to build and work on? anyway, Moving Right Along.  ;)
