RC 181 Replica
« on: February 01, 2017, 08:20:39 AM »
Hi guys n gals,
I've only just found and joined your group, thought I'd post a couple of my build.
I was lucky enough to obtain this bike as an unfinished project-its been a slow ongoing job of a friend for the last 35 years, I got it last year and am hoping to have it finished as a static display bike by June, if not a running exhibition bike, with the help of some good friends were hoping to have a decent build to do the original builder/owner proud, he unfortunately passed away last year, more pics to follow..

A worthy endeavor (even if it's not a 500cc GP bike motor!). Looking forward to your build.

Are you doing any engine work (looks like you are starting with a 500 or 550)?  Are you sourcing a twin-leading shoe front brake, too?

Thanks CB750 CRF,
Yes theirs at twin leading four shoe set up on the front-not set up yet, the bike has no kick start or starter motor, so that is next to make life easier starting/testing in the shop-we may remove once sorted out.

I don't know if you have sourced the fairing yet.  Airtech Streamlining makes some decent replica fairings.  I like the actual factory fairing in the Mike Hailwood bike, because it allows easy removal/installation in two pieces (everything but the belly pan and then the belly pan to secure both bottom edges).

"Maverick" -- your photo is INVERTED.   ;)

Are you doing your own glass work for the mods the fairing?

A good friend is glassing up the fairing, he based on Cr 750 and has louvered for cooler area and also a quick fit oil catch to comply with our track rules at VRRA
