Need advice on F series final drive
« on: January 16, 2017, 12:57:24 AM »
Hi guys,

I got this final drive by error (eBay seller sent wrong part). I'm fairly certain it's from an 'F' series bike, as it doesn't look anything like my 'K' series final drive.

Just eyeballing it looks like this is offset 10mm further over. Any 'F' series guru's know for sure whether it's an 'F' part? I'm going to try & sell it for the seller here in Australia, rather than ship back to US. Just want to get my facts straight for the ad.

Yeah mate, and I'm pretty sure it's from an F2, the gearing is different and the larger offset was to accommodate a wider 630 chain. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Thanks Terry. That's what I thought.

Just out of interest.....When I swapped the F shaft in for the K series shaft, there is not enough room to fit the retaining ring or the seal. The F2 case must be different also?

It probably is mate, I've never had the two engines apart at the same time to compare them, but someone here probably has. ;D

Yes, F2 or K7/8 have that different shaft, and the cases are wider too- see this thread

Hi Tim,

Thanks for that. It's an interesting read, although I got confused right at the end of it when I read

"no problem keeping with the the F2 shaft". Is that a typo? Should it read F1 shaft? How did the F2 shaft (which is 10mm longer) fit in your F1 cases?

Yes, you're right, it should say F1 shaft. I've edited it now.

If the long shaft fits your case you will have to use your gear, cant mix them.     Far as I know.
