78 CB750K rear shocks lower "offset"
« on: January 18, 2017, 10:41:49 AM »
My rear shocks are installed with an "offset" bracket for lack of a more technical term.  Looking through all the pictures of other bikes here and on the Internet, I have not seen another CB750 with these.  I attempted to attach a picture where you can see the bracket where the lower end of the shock attaches.  Can anyone shed light as to what benefit they provide?

It's very difficult to see the "offset" in the bracket attached to the lower swingarm. Perhaps you should post a photo from the rear.

Generally, it is not the best idea to put all of the stress of the suspension on a bracket that might not be as strong enough to withstand repeated stress

Looks may be deceiving, but it appears that your shocks are canted forward.  This may change the effectiveness of the shocks to dampen forces on the swingarm.

Lowering blocks, many used them to lower the gap between tire and fender plus the seat..
Not everyone is a pegscraper.
I put thousands of miles on with one of those.. You can switch back to stock position , in 15-20 mi utes... Then see which you prefer..

ROT - I think you nailed it with what these are/do.  They do move the lower end of the shock back, giving it that canted forward look, but it also lowers the seat/fender closer to the wheel.  I marked up another picture where I tried to outline the bracket.

Thanks for the quick replies and info.  I may do what you suggest about taking it out and see if I which way I prefer.

Moving them to stock will improve handling.

Your term "offset" had me thinking these were offset outward of the bike, too -- not just canted forward.  No rear photo necessary.
