Last I checked, tires were supposed to be round...
« on: January 20, 2017, 11:20:21 AM »
Took this to demonstrate to the seller that the Duro front tire on the CL350 is WAY out of round. I won't mention names yet because, in all fairness, I bought the tire in August and was told about it when the shop mounted it. I didn't realize quite how bad it was and I didn't get the bike running until last week.
I'd say there's 3/16" or almost 5mm difference in the high and low spot.
It's not the wheel; it's round and true. Forks, steering stem, axle, clamps, etc., all proper. Just an egg shaped wheel.
I'll see what they have to say about the tire.

.i have only seen it so bad  on russian tires before..but all tires can get a flat spot of standing or hanging at one piont at long time..mine tractor jumps for the first 5 minuts..to the tires get hot..specily if it have stayed for months...but that tire is abaut 1,80 meter in diameter

now show us a video of the bead area of the rim going around...likely there is a molded in ring in the tire to show how unevenly the bead is seated.

Not saying it was you who did it.  This is a common occurence when tube type tires get mounted by underpaid youngsters who have only ever worked on new motorcycles.

Also not defending the use of Duro tires.  They are cheap and likely to be defective.  You get what you pay for, especially in the world of motorcycle tires.

Also, have you ridden the bike yet?  I would be surprised if the cl will go fast enough to notice that, as long as the wheel is properly balanced.
If it works good, it looks good...

I'm kinda with Sean here.

I've mounted plenty of tires that sat around in a warehouse too long and as a result they never mounted cleanly.

I always had to ease them back into proper shape by inflating and deflating them.

Every tire will have a sidewall ring that should be approximately flush with the top of the rim.

I know what you're talking about. I had the tire on the BMW do that. The Pilot Activ's are apparently really hard to get to seat.
I DO see a tiny bit of evidence of that ring in one spot, on both sides of the tire. It's nowhere near as bad as the BMW was, but I can see a slight difference. It's worth a shot trying to get it to seat.

I have ridden the bike. It's noticeable at anything above a fast walking speed and especially once I get past 35-40 MPH.

Use dishsoap  diluted,  or tire mounting fluid when mounting tires.
Helps the bead slide in place..

Could it possibly be the wheel that is out of round?

Soap as lubrication tire, rim. Pump tire with excessive pressure, like the double. Release all air and pump again unitil tire will seat correctly. If stucked to the rim, drive the bike with very little air inside for release. Pump tire again.

No, the wheel is good. It's a tire issue.

I'm going to give a shot and deflating/inflating it and see what happens. My little air compressor is probably incapable of going double on the pressure, though. If I can't get it, I'll run it to the shop.

 Follow up:

I tried deflating/inflating the tire and got nowhere. Took it to my local shop and they dismounted it, soaped it up heavily and tried again. Even with 80+ PSI in it (in a tube!) it still wouldn't seat. When they put it on the truing stand, I could see the egg shape from almost 40 feet away.
At this point, I can tell you that the vendor was Sirius Consolidated. I have been in contact with them and relayed the latest findings. Within 20 minutes, they responded that they were going to replace the tire but THEIR vendor was out of stock 'til April, so they issued me a full refund!
For once, excellent customer service prevails!

I've used them before, both through eBay and direct from their website, for everything from jets and carb kits to tires. This is the first time I've ever had an issue and can only give them TWO BIG THUMBS UP!

I bought a bunch of Duro tires at a really good price once. Front and rear averaged about $75.00 for a new pair for a 750. Good value for a first set out of the barn but I will say that the rear tires melt away like warm butter.  Don't expect high mileage out of them.

The tire selection for the CL350 front is limited. It uses a skinny, 19" rim. There are only so many 3.00-19 tires out there and they're either cheap or expensive, with nothing in the middle.

Pshaw!  Cheap is a relative term of course, but there are a few tires that will fit that bike.  3.00 R19 is essentially 90/90-19  You can get Pirelli MT66s for ~90 bucks a tire.

Metzler offers one for 90 bucks.  I have no problem with them.
