Hello from Arizona
« on: January 22, 2017, 06:10:41 AM »
I am looking to buy a K1 so that I can restore it resemble the one I owned back in the day.
Any thoughts on choosing the correct project bike will be appreciated. Thinking this is the start of a great project.

Got a K1, Bought a 1971 that that I have only seen pics of. It should be in my garage in a week as it shipping from central Florida. Plan is to bring it pack to bone stock. This will help me relive the one I chopped in 1973.

Looks like a great bike to start with.  What do you know about it?  And welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forums!

Wow, that is kick back in time if it is an old build that has weathered well...garage kept. The bags are definitely old school look.
Let us know what brand those bags and trunk are along with more photos when you get it.   Where in AZ are you located?  Several other members are in AZ and I used to be. Great place to live I think.

What I have learned so far that I should be the 3rd owner. The 1st owner sold it to the seller in 2004 and he has had it since. Super nice folks, they are getting to old to enjoy the bike any more so they sold it to me.

It has 71K miles and is running and is not smoking. Wondering how many miles can these engines go before they need to be rebuilt?
The frame and engine numbers are correct for a K1 and the current owner does not believe the the engine has been rebuilt. The handle bars are not stock, gauges look to be correct and off course the exhaust has been changed. When it arrive I plan to remove the touring stuff and give it a good going thru, to identify what parts and work it may need to return it to stock.

I live in Mesa and love AZ. Thank you all for your responses.

Some one will surely take those Jardine pipes off your hands.

Welcome and congrats on the purchase. I too, will be restoring a K1 soon, wish mine looked that good!

Ofreen has the record, he has over 130,000 miles on his CB750, and climbing [140?]

They sell re-pops on the stock exhaust now, your bike will be worth the investment.

He passed 155,000 last year, without a motor re-build. ;D

The Yamiya pipes are nice, and I'm sure the dss ones are too. Save up for a bit and get a set, it will be worth it on a bike like that. If the engine is in good shape, no need to touch it. Just do the 3000 mile tune up and see how it goes. Then ride it out to Vegas and I'll have a look at it! 👍😉

Selling price is $157,573 today only.  I'll have to tack on another 30 bucks or so tomorrow when I get home from work. ;)
