really looks like to me that the cb250 is the same as a cb360t in the U.S.  cb350k/g(68-74ish) are not the same as cb360t(74-76?ish).  They are both twins but totally different engines and yes the 360 had a six speed

You are absolutely right. They are both essentially the same bikes, except for the engine. When the CB360Twin was first shown here in the U.S. in late 1973, the CB250 was shown right next to it. But the smaller bike never came to market in the U.S.

I'm in the process of now looking to check out a bike in Berlin, I have both engine and frame number in hand, but not able to find much on the engine number... Again, need help....

The guys from Europe can probably respond to this better. What CB250 exactly is it? We here in the U.S. did not have the CB250 Twin with the -286- product code. The only early comparable 250s were the CB/CL 72s Hawk and Scrambler in the 60s. Then we got a CB250 Nighthawk in 1991.
We had the sister model CB350 only from 1974 on.

A seller in Berlin is selling his 1976, what he says is a CB250G.

I was wondering if I can ask you guys, the people who knows these bikes, to see if the VIN checks out.

I am not able to find much info apart from the frame is one of the last G models, but I'm not 100% sure...

Would you kindly have a look for me and see if the engine and frame checks out to be original? I know Honda doesn't have the matching numbers as such, but I would at least like to know the bike is not a total mishmash bike ..

So whats the market price for a cute little scoot like that over in Germany ? Are the small displacement bikes sought out by collectors. Also can the Germans put a bigger license plate on the back-geeesh .
Found out more info on the bike.
It has had 10 previous owners.
Checked the VIN by one of the sales rep at David Silver, VIN checks out, engine checks out OK. All pointing to 1974 onwards CB250G5.
In fact, the frame says it's one of the last few hundred made.

The seller was asking 2750eu, and since I found out he owns an "old timer" motorcycle rental shop, in which this pacticular is being rented at 80eu a day.

The current sale price is 2600eu.
I'm going to have a look at it tomorrow. Not feeling overly comfortable with a "rental bike" as I have rented bikes before and to be fair, I wasn't at all gentle with it....

Again, 1979s were DOHCs. Other than bolts and washers these bikes did not have anything in common with the SOHCs

Ya'll are fixated on that 79 thing.  It's an easy typo to make...careless to not notice, yet simple to make.

I don't read german...but if the word "Hobby" in the description means what I think it means.  There's some of your origin story.

Description said something about TUV til 12/18.  Seller may have already made the machine legit to register and ride...it seems a prudent question to ASK rather than assume.  Folks get a bit testy when you call them criminals (not to mention hack mechanic)

Now could ya'll quit sharting on the seller just cause they put together a bike with the incorrect year of HEADLIGHT EARS, CHAINGUARD, and SIDE COVERS.

Bloody hell people.  Where is your decency?

It's already established the machine is not a concours restoration.  Can we leave it at that?

Some of ya'll got a real twisted bias against bike builder/sellers who might not belong to this forum.
I've seen it come up on here a lot from a few different members.  It's rather distateful in my opinion.
The hypocrisy leaves a bad taste in my mouth because there are several members who posess bitsa bikes, We give them a badge of honor and a trophy for having enough spare parts to do so!  But then crap on the work of a non-forum member for doing the same!  Way to make the forum look like an exclusionary bunch of arseholes.  Give one build a BotM award, but label an different bike STOLEN just because mismatch parts and a possible typo?  MOO!  MOO MOO MOO!!!!

I hope the seller turns out to be an sohc4 member and comes here to #$%*slap ya'll.

Then they and I can joke together about he FREAKING SWORD fixed to my bike because we are BLOODY PIRATES RATED AAARRRRR!

Seller says : first registration was 24.07.1979.

That has nothing to do with the year of production.
As F2 didnt sell that good its possible that the bike stood for a year in the dealkers showroom..

BTW: my 1983 CX650turbo stood there for 4 years, first registrationb was 1987

nevertheless: far too much money for that bike, even in German market.

Because of the little to none Km?
Pretty easy to change for a new NIS speedo or even Dail down if one wanted to.
But good find. The one I'm looking at is only an hour from me, let's see how it goes tomorrow if I can make it in this crappy set icy weather.

On that 750....(although the add says "sold")

Yeah it's pretty, and I could see how one who was looking for a vintage Honda and didn't know much about the models and years might be tempted to bite at this. The seller didn't list the year model, he just calls it a "CB750" which is true.
 What the seller doesn't say and it was pointed out by the OP is that it's been pieced together (72/78) to form a CB750M...M denotes mutt, but in no way original as a the buyer had hoped.
"False advertising"? Might be tough, remember...no year listed.
 eBay buyers are encouraged to " look at the photo(s) carefully before bidding" at least in the U.S. it's like a disclosure of sorts to "protect" the seller from buyers remorse.
 Seller also states, "No returns". This might be tough to extricate oneself from if your bid is the winning bid. However, email communication run through eBay affords record of all correspondence which migh work to the buyers advantage since the seller is ignoring you now after your claim of the item "not as advertised". Indeed it's not a 79 and thus "NAA" which might be your ace.
Hope it worked out in your favor.

 This bike or one like it just popped up on Facebook for a while. I can't find the post now. Armed with the knowledge Europe got the cb750 K2 for several years while those of us in the US got K3-K6 I can't help wonder how qualified I am to comment on what parts belong on a Euro spec cb750. We know model year sometimes depended on when it was registered. My own cb500K2 was sold to me as a 73 and my 69 Sandcast is registered as a 70 when the next bike sold there was a diecast 69.
 I'm not saying this one is legit but maybe the members in Europe can shed some more light on the K2's sold there.

Hi everyone,

First time poster, but been lurking for some time, looking for info etc.

I've finally pulled the trigger on a new to me CB750 Four. And I'm desperately needing some professional advice.... I don't want to be jammed up with a sale which could turn into a money pit.

Now, I'm very new to the CB range, I have Yamaha RD and a SR, but never a Honda CB.

I made a last second bid on a what is stated a 1979 CB750 Four.
I looked at it and thought it's a good looking enough bike to work on. But after much research, I've found there could be problems and maybe a chop job?

The frame number seems to be well large compared to the engine number.

Frame# CB 750G 1005794
Engine# 750GE 1012022

I studied the photos with a friend of mine and he saw that the rear foot rear are most likely from a 1979 CB750G? And not a "Four"?

The petrol tank, side covers, wheels (including the rear drum), looks to be from an early model? 1972/3?

But frame, engine, carbs looks to be from 1979?

I would appreciate it greatly if anyone can chime in on this ordeal.

Terry the G is in both numbers, hence the perception by some it is an earlier bike.
Not sure where the 1975 comes from, but I must ask, do all F  750 frames have the sidestand further back than the K, or only 77/78 ?

Just checked the numbers on my 77F2 (UK bike).

Engine: B750GE-10012**

Frame: CB750G-10014**

I'm still convinced that's an F2 frame, don't think the '75 F had footrest hangers like that.

The 77/78 frames had a pair of bushings welded to the neck, facing forward..could be removed in some cases.. Not sure about the 75/76.

 I never considered the chopper sight a be all /end all source.
 But I have been into cb 750 four four decades plus, and never heard of G numbers till the last few years...and only found that out on here..
 Every once in a while a surprise pops up...

Thanks Martin, I'd never heard of an additional letter on a CB750 engine number, so I've removed any of my posts that state otherwise. The frame number matched a 1975 F on the Honda chopper site, but you're our UK expert, so I'll defer to your local knowledge. Cheers, Terry. ;D

That's one of the problems. Honda did different things in different countries and areas of the world. Some had to do with legal requirements.
Like in the U.S., from 1981 on, I think, we had to have a 17-digit VIN. Most countries in Europe did not. same bike sold in the U.S. followed a different VIN number scheme than one in Germany, for example.

The update is that seller have not cancelled the sale, nor has eBay been in touch about this.

Re the other topic I asked: cb250 - was snowed in and didn't want to drive in the snow to Berlin. So going next week to see it.

Thats what we need: ebay buyers that start thinking about their purchase after pulling the tricker.

I can´t find that seller says its a 1979 bike. First street registration was in 1979.
It even has TÜV until Dec. 2018.
Seller says, bike can be seen before purchase and he doesnt acept any rejections from sale.

On Jan 19 seller clarified frame number ("G"), your winning bit was thereafter on Jan. 22

Anyway good luck.

If I was the seller, you would need that.

The thing with eBay is, you can say (or NOT say) a lot of things, but it doesn't always mean anything.

This is why eBay have buyers guarantee and buyers protection. 

If I have taken the case to eBay and they have stated that there is no legal obligations, then I don't think I'll need luck on my side.

Thanks for saying that you're a interrupted individual tho by saying people would not be so lucky dealing with you. It's good to have forum banter, but comments like that really spoils it for a lot of people.

Hmmnn, I've got a 100% feedback profile with over 1000 positive feedback points on Ebay, and I use Ebay to buy 90% of my motorcycle needs, but I really can't see how a seller can force a buyer to buy something, for whatever reason.

Yes I know that (supposedly) an auction win is a legally binding contract, but judging by the amount of relists I see due to "non paying bidders" (or perhaps some of them are folks disappointed that their "win" wasn't as attractive as it looked in the pics, or it only ran on 2 cylinders etc etc) I don't think too many sellers would do anything more than first offer it to the next highest bidder, or just re-auction the item.

Does anyone know anyone who's ever successfully sued a non paying Ebay bidder? ;D
