Got my brake lines ordered this morning from Shaun at Slingshot. He's setting them up to fit my dual brakes. Very nice guy.

Back in the day on my K0 I always had Koni shocks, these Hagons should be great.

Ok, my o rings got here, the ones for the dowel between the engine cases. Time to get busy. I have 49 extras if anyone needs one.
Also, Hagon shocks arrived, no idea how they got here so quickly from the U.K. Sure will be nice to try them out, still lots to do.

Rats, I wish I had seen that you needed one! I have 60 of these...
Before I get the head back, let me know if you need any other O-rings? I can send them with it.

I was considering using polished stainless bolts and acorn nuts to secure the shocks. It turns out that I cannot find the 10mm x 1.25 fasteners in stainless. Grainger doesn't list any and they have a huge list. They list them in steel. Weird.

Cases back together, yes, you have to work quickly with Hondabond, it sets up pretty fast. Also got the shifter together so I could satisfy myself that it clicks through the gears nicely. New neutral switch went in. Also new oil pressure sender.
Having all the fasteners laid out on the cardboard in advance sped things up.

Making a bit of progress, got the pistons on the rods. I will next need to paint the cylinders. After that I can install them.
I've also been getting the new wiring harness sorted out.
It's starting to look like a real motorcycle.
As a side note, here in Hawaii we have a lot of common Mynah birds. We just acquired one that has latched on to our hospitality. He/she shows up each day for some food and a bath in the pool.

The pistons are 0.5mm over, provided by Hondaman, (they are Japanese) along with the machine service to bore the cylinders. I think that makes the engine 749cc. He is also giving the head a freshening up. I'm not making a hot rod or anything, just a sound stock engine with new primary chain, cam chain, tensioners, seals, etc. The rest of the bike is being treated the same way, I'll post more pictures as I go along. It will look like my K0 I rode as a 20 something.
As we all know, when you strip down a 43 year old CB, you find endless parts lists to replace if your goal is to make the bike as fresh as you can. Things like battery bumpers, electrical boots, obscure fasteners, all that stuff is dull and tired. I decided to get a re-chromed kick starter and shifter, as the bike progressed I realized the existing ones would look out of place if I didn't either re-chrome them or get another. There are no chrome shops near here so I ordered one from Yamiya750. The frame is POR15 chassis black with their top coat for UV protection.
I still have my stock pistons, in good condition, not sure what I'll do with them, maybe someone will need them some day.

Turns out these Mynas are pretty social birds, this one must have been rescued by someone and released. They love to take a bath. If I sit on the pool step and let my leg go down and rest in the water he/she walks down to where it's belly deep and just shakes and flutters until it's soaking wet, they love it.

Head's going back together tomorrow. Got it cleaned out of the odd casting flaws and such.
This one is an interesting mix: the cylinders were K2 type with the still-sandy appearance to the casting, the head is K3 with the rushed-to-finish look to it. Typical of Honda at the time: they were struggling to make enough of them at all! :)

That sounds great.
I painted and installed the cylinders. That was a bit touchy, one has to stay calm and careful! I had 2/3 up too far so after I got the rings in the cylinders I had to gently move the crank to reposition 1/4 so I had room for the clamp and the ability to get 1/4 into the bores. Went fine, just very slow. All moves very smoothly now.
My wheel weights came in so I can balance my tires now. I'm also thinking about getting one of Yamiya750's 2cm lower seats so I can flat foot easier, they look pretty nice, if a bit pricey.

I will have some extras when I'm done and I want to preserve most of it. One item is the flake sunrise tank, which is in pretty good shape. Anyone have any ideas of what to do with the inside of it to prevent corrosion in dry storage?

WD-40 sprayed inside.  Others suggest Marvel's Mystery Oil.

Actually, just a decent fill with about a gallon of diesel, roll it around, then drain it. Whenever you might put it into service, regular gas will clean it out straight away.

It will be pretty “odorous” but it’s cheapr than Marvel and abundant in most places. Even a 1/2 gallon will do you-

A LOT cheaper than Marvel.

Ok, so I'm working with the wiring harness and I have had some mysteries.
It's a new harness, and both handlebar controls are new.
I didn't write down the color codes but I will if needed.
The main problem was that by plugging together all the like colors up front, the headlight ended up un-fused and I had the two leads that run through the 7.5 amp fuse not connected to anything! This after a lot of studying the 4 diagrams I'm using and doing a lot of wire continuity checking to figure out what goes where. To remedy this I temporarily wired the fuse in series with the hi/low center tap and over into the brown/white circuit. The light now works and is fused. I just have to make a permanent clean splice. This harness I got must not be exactly right.
I also thing my rear brake light switch does not light the light. I checked the switch.
I'll tackle that next.
Years ago, in my early days of putting submarines together I asked an old electrician how he gets
the enormous wiring systems back together. At the time he was assembling a wire run that was about 15" in diameter. Hundreds of connections. His answer? "One wire at a time"

Still working with the wiring harness. I have lighting sort of working but I can't seem to get it right.
Right now I have the headlight working through the 7.5 amp fuse in the top position on Hondaman's fuse block by plugging the right side headlight switch wire into the spare black, the hi/low connected to the brown/black from the fuse, and a jumper from the brown red to the brown/white in the headlight can. This gives me fused headlight. The taillight is working through the 5 amp fuse in the middle position. I verified by pulling fuses in succession. The only problem I see is the instrument illumination bulbs don't seem to run through a fuse.
At this point I'm not using the extra brown which is switched by the ignition. There's got to be a better way.
Have not made any actual changes yet, just using alligator clips.

The instrument lights are powered by the taillight circuit (until the F0 bike). Most of the time the wire feeding each instrument light is Brn/Red or sometimes Brn/Wht (I have seen Brn/Yel more than once, but those were in K5-6). There is usually a 3-hole or 4-hole female in the headlight, which may be directly jumped to another, to collect all the little instrument light leads.

Head's on the way!

Remember this, if you are installing brand-new points: you need to run them about 100 miles or so without the box plugged in, first.

Reasons: the first is simply that nasty coating on the contacts that so far has resisted anything I can find to scrub it ALL off. It is a modern form of cosmolene, and as tenacious as enamel paint. I clean them with lacquer thinner on a sharp points file, then run them about 1 tank of gas, and THEN plug in the box. The Black and Green wires can be connected this whole time: just leave the Yellow/Blue/Orange/Purple wires free until the points are set up and burned clean.

Another reason: the foot and pivot of the points will not seat unless they suffer some initial arcing-breaking action: this puts significant force on them to seat them in. If you wait this 100 miles or so, the points will likely never need to be readjusted again: I ran mine from 2009-2013 with this same 1-2 step process (110 miles per tank of gas, first tank on points) and it never moved the timing, not a hair.

A final (and more recently discovered) reason: today's points are tungsten PLATED, not solid tungsten like they were in the 'old days'. This causes them to act differently with the box when cold, if they are not welded thru their substrate first. Running them reportedly 20 miles is enough to weld the tungsten plate to the underlaying metal (whatever it is) and make them work right. When right: the box will notice the difference between 'cold' points and 'hot' points, and will adjust the current slightly to the coils accordingly. This makes a little bit longer spark while the engine is cold, and everyone notices this right away when they stick the box onto a running bike. If the tungsten is not welded, the junction between it and the underlaying metal acts as a thermocouple and masks the temperature effects from the box.

Today, my brake lines came in from Slingshot. Wow, quality stuff. Shaun even bent me a wonderful right side caliper pipe. I roughly fit everything up, here are a few preliminary photos. More to come.

Is the headlight wattage 55/60w? If so, the OEM ON-OFF switch should be up to the task.
