kg,

You could open a Honda flying school.

Now, on to my signature song from another forum (and work):

"Up in the air, jr. birdmen,
Up in the air, up side down..."

Seems like nice work. I would never be caught dead riding that thing in public.

Blah.  That's bland.  While possibly cutting edge, the engines look like an afterthought.  Kind of like they built the plane then said "oops, we forgot to add engines."  Here, we'll just stick a couple about right here.

And since I'm in the complaining mood...  The e-bay auction should include a large paper bag with eye holes to wear over your helmet.  This way you can ride it in public.  The reason he hasn't put alot of miles on it is probably because the wind never stops blowing in Kansas.  Either that or he knows everyone is laughing at him.

Well that shows what you know about airplanes  ::)

There are multiple design aspects that are unique solutions to problems of design.

I'll address just one for you.

The engines you seem to think an afterthought?

They are put there instead of on the fuselage to alleviate the weight of the additional structure in the aft body. Since the forward and aft spars of the wing are plenty strong enough to support the pylon on the engine why add weight?

Additionally the placement of the engine pylons on the wing frees up space normally used for the pylon and associated hardware. Kind of nice not having fuel and hydraulic lines in the cabin area.

If your really bored I'll explain what a natural laminar flow wing is.....

I'll even talk about the unique engine honda has developed.

You might take a moment and consider the possibilities....one of the worlds largest car/motorcycle manufacturer delving into Aviation....wonder what that would do to the cost associated with flying?

Takes me back to Fords experimentation with aviation in the 1920's....oh what could have been

That's a pretty nice looking design.

What would that do to Eclipse Aviation (our local company in ABQ)?

I should think it would make buying a plane cheaper initially, as they did with their cars and motorcycles

"Takes me back to Fords experimentation with aviation in the 1920's....oh what could have been"

that would have given a whole new dimension to "Found On Road Dead"

JKI have owned good fords and still do

Other than being a licensed pilot and currently serving in the U. S. Air Force?  ::)  It's still a bland design with only the wing mounted (after thought) engines distinguishing it from lear jet designs dating from before when our bikes were built.  To me, the engines look stuck-on and don't flow with the design of the aircraft.  Typical of Honda though, their technology is cutting edge while their designs are generally conservative and...  well, bland.  But that's my opinion, not trying to start an argument.

That just means your in the worlds biggest flying club.

I do so love it when people say they are "licensed" pilots. Every time I hear that it screams noob.  ::).

Now if you'd told me you flew tac-air or something I'd have been impressed.  ;D

Like I said earlier theos engine pylons are claimed to increase cabin volume by up to 30 percent.

On those pylons are a medium bypass engine of Hondas own design equipped with FADEC. Said to be the first of its kind on engines of this size.

The unified composite structure of the airframe while not new (dates back to rutan and scaled composites) does represent a possible increase when combined with engine of up to 40 percent ( fuel efficiency or range/payload take your pick)

I'd say thats pretty significant.

Funny video!
All flaming posts aside, I wonder why Honda is jumping into the private aircraft market.  In particular, corporate jets.  The corporate jet market is very flat and heavily dominated by the Citation series.  Why didn't they jump into the single and twin engine piston market?  That would seem like the smart thing to do.  They already have a solid reputation as a piston engine builder, why not carry on with that and build up?  That would fit what Honda has always done, built to the masses.
