My cb350f build (aus)
« on: February 24, 2016, 01:12:50 AM »
Hi all, been reading alot of great information on this forum, thought id share my bike and document the build,

The bike had been in storage and looked pretty average with a lot of surface rust and aluminum oxide, been tidying up the gremlins and everytime i pull something of i find something Molested.

So far I have fixed a a few minor wiring issues, lighting and points melted wires. Clutch  needed adjustment. Deleted rear mudguard and got rid of the fairing. Re jetted to suit exhaust and pods.

So stage one was to get this bike running and making sure i like it.
Still has a few issues to sort out, oil leaks

Second stage is to pull it down polish, paint and powder-coat

Here it is as i bought it
Cheers

Woo another 350F brother!  I don't see a picture in your first post, maybe the link is down?  Looking forward to seeing what she looks like and your future work.  I just powder coated my frame last week and now I'm finally getting to put things back together (slowly)  8)

So it has been a while between drinks, Have bought a fair bit of kit now all i need is time

-New muffler
-Dunlop K70 4.00 tyres
- All new cables
- New Shocks
- New bearings
- Mx Handle bars
- New stainless spokes
-New Master cylinder
- New gauge overlays
- New Headlight and mounts
- Fork gaitors
- Brass swingarm bushes
- all new gaskets to try repair those common oil leaks

So far I have deleted seat mounts and seat lock, cleaned up alot of the messy welds today , going to bend up a hoop tomorrow and build a light into the hoop like incognito sell.
Have polished the chain, stator and clutch cover and the warning lights to a mirror finish. I am still uncetrain if I want
the rest of the engine black or just the jugs. any suggestions?
cheers for checking it out. feel free to let me know what you think

Craig

Been chewing away at a few things,

-drew up a custom gauge mount in cad and had that CNCed
- rims painted and tyres placed on
- scubbed up the years of baked on crud, then When I tried to pull the head off to fix a couple of oil leeks, the CB350f projected entered a whole new world of cost, more than half of the rocker cover bolts were stripped and the head was siliconed on, cheer previous owner. The bastard would not budge. A few broken fits and persuading she came off. Also the timing chain had a bit of slop so that will be replaced as well.

New plan 400f head and a big bore, I was very tempted to just put a xr600 engine in and be done with it, but down here our government doesn't like things like that.

Bike has been stripped down to pretty much ever nut and bolt.

At the moment i am trying to work out if i want to clear the rear triangle of clutter and hide the wiring or keep the original 350f covers.

I also came across a dirt cheap r1 front end wither i use it or save it for another build, we will see.

Plan is to make the seat pan this weekend so i can then get the frame blasted and powder coated. And am just waiting for the bigbore kit to get here so i can have the head machined to suit.

Thanks for looking , bare with my brief explanation as i am publishing from my phone

Thanks
Craig

If you do use the R1 front end, you'll have a time of it mating the stock wheel to it. If you do use it and want spokes, go back to Cognito and grab one of their hubs, get some spokes and a new rim and you'll be back on track. That is until you get to the rear wheel as you'll likely want a wider rim than stock there too. The 350 swing arm is pretty narrow, and I doubt a 140/18 would fit comfortably, but it might.

Love the tank, not so hot on the seat or its color  :-\
I hope you are planning to treat that wire harness and all the connectors to a "spa weekend"  ;)

calj737,  cheers for the feedback, seat does look better in real life and is very comfortable, not like the one on my cb360. The wiring harness is going to be scrapped and ill make a custom one. It has gone all hard and the connectors have definitely seen better days.

Bootsey, yeah the tank once again doesnt give it justice with my crappy photo abilities, Had it painted in gloss black and cleared, then had the green painted on and cleared, then the pin strips painted on and cleared, the logo painted on and cleared, So it should be plenty strong enough.

innovativems, Yeah I went with the 400 head and bored it out to suit the 466 pistons, I actually met a guy locally that used to race these and actually still had his bike, he had his bored out to 498. I wasn't feeling as adventurist as him. I decided against any work that would increase the power in the rev range as I want it still ride able on the street. I'm not expecting anything crazy in the way of power. just built it as a fix to my expensive tinkering addiction.

Cheers

Nice going Craig - really like the job done on the tank. I think the tan seats really suit these bikes.

Going to keep an eye on your thread, good to see some 350F activity here in Australia.

I'm looking at doing a rebuild with the bike off the road over winter, I assume your sourcing most of your parts from the states?
