Just sent you a PM and will look tomorrow and send you some pictures of them for reference. I know they do have the same openings between cylinders that catch the dirt and grit on the case studs that you encountered. I didn't have a huge issue in removing them though from what I recall I was able to split at the upper case and pry up and remove.
