 While watching the replay of the mecum sale on TV a nice cb750 was going through and brought a decent price. One of the mufflers had a dent. The play by play guy mentioned it and said the dent didn't matter much as long as it had the 4-4 mufflers. He confirmed a bike with stock mufflers would sell for about $2K more than a bike with a header on it.
 That made a decision for me on my K1 project. DSS no number set on order and I'm still looking for a 341 #2 pipe that's the one with the bottom brackets for the side stand and center stand.

Yes.  IIRC that was the planet blue '74, and it went near $6k....

Those two blue CB750's belonged to a friend of mine. He sold 150 bikes at the Las Vegas auction. When those two blue CB750's came up the first one was a 1976 K6 that he had me put a Planet blue K5 tin set on. It was the bike that I painted the engine in the frame(I had pictures of it in the "Paint you engine" thread a few posts back. It had a real crappy Sunrise Orange tin set on it too. I polished the frame, forks, engine covers, painted the engine and went through the fuel system. I turned out real nice and ran like a top. It brought $6000. The one they featured out back with the dent in the muffler was a 1975 K5 and brought $7500. I stripped that one down to the bare frame, polished the frame, engine covers, forks, repainted some of the black pieces, went through the fuel system, put NOS tins on it and cleaned the engine. It also ran like a beast when it was done. If you noticed, neither bike had baffles. He sold four pre-77 750's and they all brought between 6 and 8 grand. There is a pretty healthy market right now for the K0 through K6 bikes.

CB750 NOS tanks were sold out at the dealer for about $50US in  ca: 1982-1983. I got the available colors described in phone, but I did not like them. I wanted Candy Sapphire blue or similar. If I should have known ...I should have bought 10 of them or more.... Maybe they had 1969 tanks too... ?? Yes I lost my HM341's too....together with the centerstand.. I had to order new and restored from Yamiya750..

You seem to forget that a lot of the original exhausts rotted out pretty fast.  That was also why lots of bikes didn't keep them on the bike.

I know the earlier the 750 the more value it tends to have but I was stunned that the 78 F3 only sold for $2,750 I think it was, I don't know what issues it had but it looked clean to me. Kind of bummed me out because that means my 77 F2 probably isn't worth any more but I didn't buy mine to turn around and flip it so it's resale value wont be an issue till the day comes that I actually sell it. I know I've already put more money in it than it's worth but that's why I ride it as often as I do in order for it to pay for itself so to speak.

Back in 73 we thought sandcasts were old technology, the newer the better, if only we had known!  I would've bought 10 of them and stuck them in a garage somewhere.

Excellent news since I'm contemplating selling my almost all original 74 750K soon.  It's has a frame kit and was repainted 2 years ago, but the HM341 pipes are about as perfect as you get for 40+ years.  Wife keeps asking why it's still int he garage....I've been telling her the market is terrible right now and need to wait.

Same thing "bailgang" I also have a nice 78F with very low miles 10,800. I thought i hit a homerun when i found it for less than 1G. Put another 5-6 into it and could not move it for 2G last year.Mabey it is the bad "top end" thing that keeps the buyers away,because I know it is not the "performance". I have decided to keep it and ride it like I stole it.

This is all great news... I only have one complete, stock CB750 but it's a low mileage K1 I got from Portland a few years ago. This is, someone not all that long ago much have replaced every single piece of chrome on the bike with NOS parts including the HM300's! Even the back of the gauges are perfect chrome. The pipes look new! Guess it's about time to clean the bike and get some great paint on it!

 I think we agree an original set of pipes should have more value than repops. Now find me a nice original #2 341 please. I check the usual sources twice a day for one and still missed one.

 The original pipes did rust badly especially when someone in the rust belt like me frequently started his bike during the winter thinking warming it up in an open garage was good for it. (maybe OK for the carbs but for sure not the mufflers).

 My DSS pipes shipped today, I'll post a report on my River Rat build page.
