When I had my shop in the early 1970s ('71-'74) we stocked only the HD chains. They cost just $2 more at that time, and the owners, not being always good stewards of their rides, got many more miles from them in all the sizes. We never had any issues of any kind with the swaps on any Hondas or Suzukis of that era: the Hondas all used 530 down to the CB/CL250 Twins and up to the mighty 750, the Suzys used 530 on anything bigger than 250cc, too. Harleys used them as well.
Where we DID have issues was in the middle 1970s when the O-ring and X-ring chains appeared. These often don't fit where the 'light' 530 chains were, and many times won't fit on the Honda Twins, either. In the last of the Fours with the 630 chains, the biggest X-ring chains often hit inside the chainguard at the rear shock, if they manage to clear the front cases OK. Most of the O-ring chains will still fit those bikes, though.
The 'truth' today is: since the 1990s, the 530 chains' design worldwide (except DID) handles nearly 100 HP at the speeds ours will see on our (at best) 70 HP rear drives, so using super-HD X-ring chains is, well...expensive? Heck, I still get over 40k miles from a standard XDL chain (still available, just bought 2 this week!).
