Amazing what happens when you use the correct spokes to match the rim. All done and dusted.  Next part is truing the wheels, hm might leave that to someone who knows what they are doing!!!!!!

I just relaced my very first motorcycle rim for a cb350 twin I'm currently building and I found that truing the rim wasn't nearly as bad as I had thought it would be, the only problem I had was getting the rim concentric with the hub more than anything. It turned out the rim was slightly oval and I never could get it perfectly round, I got it close just not absolutely spot on which I guess that's what I get for using a used 40+ year old rim that's seen its fair share of bumps. When it came time to true it at first it was way out so I was a bit apprehensive but it responded well to my adjustments and and it really didn't take long at all before my dial indicator was happy, once I was satisfied with that and spoke tension I then checked to make sure it was still concentric as well. All and all it was time consuming but that was only because I was checking, double, triple and checking everything again to make sure I got it right and now that my confidence has built up a bit I'm getting its rear rim prepped for relacing as well.

I would say that with the patience you have shown with this you be able to true them yourself.

Glad you got it sorted. You've come this far, seem wrong to not finish it. Just remember to go tighten equally initially, then just take your time & adjust opposite spokes to where it runs out. Good luck!

The worst thing about lacing your own wheels (for me at least) isn't getting the side to side balancing right, but rather the "fore and aft" balance, making sure that your hub is centred in the rim. I don't have the patience for this, so I just lace them up loose and take them to my wheel man. Cheers, Terry.

You can do it. It's not rocket science.

Get the "hop" out first, then go for the side to side tune up. Check both hop and side to side as to go along. Get yourself a good spoke wrench or you will have to take up residence in the pissed off thread!

I have only done it once. I got the spoke wrench as mentioned and would not attempt to do it without. Took my time and got it right first try. True within 0.5mm
