You believe in Ali G? I don't think that's his real name........... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

got a set of lesters for my f3 enroute(anyone else ever seen these?)...worth it to lose the comstars?

No I have never seen them and yes it's worth it to lose the comstars. I'm guessing the rear is the same a earlier F models but the front is what's different.

At 3 am while cruising the internet, I pulled the trigger on a set of DSS repro 4-4 no number pipes for the K1. BOOM.
Don, do you know if they ever fixed the problem with the misalignment of the equalizer tube between the 3 and 4 pipes ?

I have two sets like this but they are not new from dss.

rear accepts f3's five bolt rotor,  cant remember for sure but I think f0/1 use a six bolt rotor and I don't know if you can easily swap the whole wheel/rotor/caliper between the two
If it works good, it looks good...

Does the front wheel match the F3's rotor disc pattern Sean? Cheers, Terry. :D

My 1994 Harley Sportster is only fitted with one front disc, and the single piston front caliper is OK, but not great. (actually it's rubbish, almost as bad a CB750) I've wanted to upgrade it ever since I did some engine mods that increased it's top speed from less than 90 MPH stock to around 120 MPH now.

I spotted a used 4 piston PM caliper on Ebay and bought it, but there's not enough clearance between the back of the caliper and the spokes, so that was a waste of $200. I might see if I can't fab up a bracket to put it on the back.

I did another search recently and Ultima are selling a 4 piston front caliper that will supposedly fit my bike. I dropped another $300, so I hope this will work........... ;D

My VTR1000 "Streetfighter" project is coming along nicely, but I'm constantly surprised at how high the seat is. Back in the 1970's a lot of short blokes (and girls) bought CB500/550's over CB750's due to the high seat, well I'm tall, but due to the angle of the seat/rear subframe, the VTR1000 seat must be at least an inch or two taller than a CB750.

I found an adjustable lowering kit that will drop it up to 3 inches lower at the rear, with the added benefit of increasing the rake at the front, for a more stable ride. It was $215 with shipping, but then I realised that I'd also need to buy an adjustable side stand (no centre stand on modern sports bikes) which at 200 bucks plus another 100 for shipping from the US, doubled the price of this particular mod.

Luckily, a seller in the US had the exact adjustable sidestand for $30, plus only $30 postage, a savings of around $200, so I pulled the trigger. Is there a mouse I can buy that's shaped like a gun? I pull the trigger so often on ebay I should change my ID to "Gunslinger"......... ;D

correcting myself here...just opened the boxes and had a panic attack.  But everything is ok, F2/3 actually has 6 bolt rear rotor just like the f0/1

Jeez Terry even mentioning a lowering kit, has put people in for a rough ride around here..
I remember racing against one of the VTR,s ..off a light..on my tired 836...holeshotted him bad... He caught me at about 80 or 85 mph.
I could see him gaining in my mirror..just could not hold him off...

My stretched and lowered 836 had a bit more rake..preferred that out on the road.. It has 77/78K trees..

Terry,

No mate, this bike was a crashed wreck that I had to re-Frame (even though the original Frame was undamaged) but the plastics were destroyed along with the tank, Yoshi pipes, etc etc. That headlight unit is just a cheap aftermarket item, but I liked it because the actual headlight is very similar to the VTR's.

Frank, you must have caught that VTR rider napping, are you sure it wasn't a VTR250? The 1000 has way more torque than a tired old Honda four, and will blow a lot of modern fours into the weeds. They were designed to beat Ducati's, and don't do a bad job. ;D

My slammed and stretched 836 was always good out of the hole... And I would race anything up to 60mph on the street. I dont know how good a rider it was on the VTR. But like I said ..good holeshot.
When I ran the tired 25 yrs on the motor a few without aircleaners...agains my  buddies slightly modded monster 900... He would get about a length on me in a first gear rollon, then we were pretty even..
My 836 was surprisingly torquey, and you could launch as hard as you wanted..

Frank, you must have caught that VTR rider napping, are you sure it wasn't a VTR250? The 1000 has way more torque than a tired old Honda four, and will blow a lot of modern fours into the weeds. They were designed to beat Ducati's, and don't do a bad job. ;D

THAT Honda platform (V-Twin superbike) is something else.  I absolutely loved my RC51 -- the Superhawk on steroids.  BOTH pull like a freight train, and have awesome brakes, too.  Lots of racing heritage, too -- championships with Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards, and TT wins by Joey Dunlop.  The Superhawk was more humane than the RC in terms of ergos.

Yeah mate, the guy I bought my spare engine from has an RC51 covered in 15 years of dust, he bought it from the original owner who fell off it and was too frightened to "get back on the horse". I traded my other VTR1000 on a car last week, but that's ok, while I love the engine, handling and those awesome 6 piston front brakes (not standard on a VTR1000, no idea where they came from) the ergo's were no good for a big fat bastard like me, hence the more relaxed "Streetfighter" build.

Frank, I know this is the internet, and on the internet whatever you say is true, but there's no way on God's earth a tired old 836 would get within a bulls roar of a VTR1000, especially if it was being ridden by anyone with a heartbeat.......... Dream on mate. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Terry , I dont have enough life left to bother bull#$%*ting anyone..
Let me guess, you never dragraced much..right ?
I came in second in points at our local track, in my first racing season on the real strip. and I had a cast up to me knee till end august that year. I was mentored heavily by a very experienced racer.
Somewhere along the way, I learned to get off the line quickly. A lot of folks cant run off the line at full power, if you bogged or are slow off the light... you got serious catching up to do.. Easy to lose a few tenths..
I never stopped to talk to the guy. I assume the bike was like yours, same rads, Honda on tank, looked like yours. how many version were there?
We were streetracers..Race against anything.. knowing full well that a good holeshot can GAIN you time.. I had a long lowered bike.. built for 1/8 mile. I would slip the clutch for as long as necessary, motor never got below 8 grand. It worked over and over and over again.. I had three things many folks dont have that probably helped the torque..a lot..
could i beat that bike in the 1/4 never, but 1/8 mile ..different story...

The rule of thumb is any time ET gain in the first 60' will be double at the other end. 100 lbs equals a tenth in a car.

The first guy that figured out you leave on one of the yellow lights instead of the green won a boatload of races before anyone else figured it out. Our most winning jr dragster left best when the my daughter reacted to the second yellow going out. (incandescent bulbs) LED's screw that up. She could see the bulb start to glow, then come on, then start to dim.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Don did they change the lights everywhere ?  Harder to read... Bummer..
Don , I bet you have seen the underdog win a few times..even when the other guy should have won.
In that first year  I used to run withinn 6 hundred of a second or less over 4-5 runs, never sandbagged.. Didnt run tach or revlimiter most of the time either.
Some of us still won quite a bit with only a revlmiter , when the others had more electronics...it used to piss them off..
I think its more fun , but I never had the electronics..

It was probably a VTR250 Frank, you can only see my radiators because the factory fairing is missing, the 250 doesn't have a fairing. Cheers, Terry. ;D
