My neighbor for several years was a Seattle PD MC cop.  At the time we lived in a pretty rural area. 
Each month he set up markers on our street and went thru drills on his H-D work bike to stay sharp.
Mostly a lot of the slow speed short radius counterbalance type turning.  clutch/throttle skills.
I had my 350F at the time....quite a bit more nimble thru his course ;D

Practice is a good thing.

Most MC have serious riding skills.  If you search youtube you will find plenty of videos of cops riding tight, technical timed courses with heavy patrol bikes -- requiring some awesome balance, braking, and clutch skills.

I like that article on braking especially where they're saying basically to 'read the terrain'.I like to get a feel for the surface of the road i'm riding on to know how much I can lean/brake.

i alvays take some power braking teste on the cbx..specily at the spring..im a bit rusty..and need to re learn the brake distange(vho is realy long on this heavy bike),,,and it is doubel as powerfull as my 550..just speed ahead can give some problems...the 550 is so balanced both acc and stopp are relative easy..and only autcoming faktors can brake up the smooth ride...

Buddy of mine was out of commission for 3 month - he is a motorcycle cop and went down practicing.   Broke left collar bone.

 I was going 80 on my 79 wing and realized I was on the wrong side of the barricades for an oncoming construction zone, After checking, there were no cars around so I did a practice emergency stop. I was quite impressed with the result although the new pads were a little stinky.
 I regularly practice slower mph stops. My 70 750 is getting new pads, it stops lousy.

Unlike JWilde's claims, you were likely not in 2nd gear doing 80+ mph.  ;)

There are good vids of cops doing those drills, fun to watch. Mostly slow speed work but often avoiding an obstacle on the street is at a slower speed.

Braking opinion & #$%*s...everbody has.... well we all know the saying!  ;D

Having this discussion is great, we all learn by it. When I see a custom bike with chrome rotors it'll be a guarantee the rider will say front brakes are dangerous. Find the middle ground.

This is the first time I heard of it;folks Really chrome plate brake rotors? sick  :o  ::)

When I took the MSF course they did braking exercises. They also did sharp turn exercises. People tend to rely on their brakes since they are so good today. They sometimes run straight into things that could be steered around. With my 78K "speed reducers" it is a good lesson.
