What's a good helmet to wear with glasses?
« on: February 01, 2017, 06:26:06 PM »
Good evening folks,

I am at that age when I need to wear glasses to see while driving. I am just wondering what helmets work well with glasses? I know that some are better suited than others.

The Bell Bullit is advertised as being compatible with glasses, I kinda like the retro style as well. Any input or opinions are most welcome. Thanks.

I have always been an Oakley guy for prescription glasses but they suck in my helmet. Oakley sunglasses are fine but my eye glasses were awful. I just got new glasses tonight and they are a non-issue now. The difference for me was Oakley not having a wrap around the top of the ear shape where as my new frames are traditional. They fit just fine with my HJC helmet. Granted that's just me standing in the garage looking cool and flexing. We'll see how they are on a ride (if I ever get to ride this thing) but I think they'll be fine.

+1 HJC - my modular CL helmet was always easy and comfortable to wear glasses with.  The AGV helmet is kind of a pain.  I think the pad is starting to wear in tho.

It's an individual thing. I was a wearer of glasses for many years until I had lasic surgery. If I was you I would buy the best helmet I can afford then take it to the optometrist and find frames that suit best.

I've always found that the frames matter far more than the helmet.

I wear Shoei helmets, but in general what I find is that if the ear hook is a wrap-around style the glasses don't fit well.  If the ear hook is more straight they sit better.

Hello, I found that my glasses that are stiffer ( older style ) are better in my helmets. I have a pair of glasses that are rimless ( titanium ) and bend a lot are terrible. The straight earpiece type are better. Helmets I have are HJC, Shoei, both are modular.

You just need the right visor:

Hitch-hiker gets picked up in a gigantic luxurious Cadillac with Texas plates.
Driver introduces himself as "Squint" Ewing, Texas billionaire.
Hitcher notices a thick pair of glasses on the dashboard, and asks the driver if he needs to wear those to drive.
Squinty laughs "Heck no, son! I just paid a bit extra, and had the windshield ground to my prescription!"

Have you thought about getting a pair with the sports band, instead of the regular arms, so they fit like goggles?

I have an HJC and wear glasses. I was out looking at new helmets and it fit best with the specs - for me. Most came down too far on the forehead as opposed to having issues with the temples. But that may just be the shape of my head.

Welcome to the club btw! You'll know you've hit the big-time when you get prescribed tri-focals. ;D

Thanks for all the input. I intend to go and try a few on and see how they fit with the glasses. I just figured I would try to get some ideas on which models would be most likely to give  good results.

I'm already wearing progressives as I need help to see at distance and I absolutely cannot read normal print without glasses. I used to wonder when my dad would fumble around looking for the "right" glasses. Now I understand........sigh

I hate to recommend things like a helmet, because it is such a personal thing. Feel and fit vary for everyone. This being said...
My wife always wears sunglasses in her helmet. She used to have a Shoei flip and now has a Nolan modular.
According to her, they both work fine with glasses as the side padding is not too tight.
She tried a Schuberth C3 and id did not work.

Modulars tend to be noisier.  Schuberth probably has the quietest modular helmets, but DAMN they're pricey!
