WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a fact, as parts have been going, Honda owners according to the "What have you done for a living?" thread make many times what I make. Yet the cheapness sticks out like a sore thumb. I mean to the point that jokes are starting about Honda owners.

Chasing a bike you can not afford or refuse to pay for is a bit like a crackhead trying to dicker a price for the next rock....And then #$%*-in about it.

Just spouting and problably my only one for awhile.

I can not type without swearing anymore so I will stop.

Just being cheaper is not smarter  >:(

Like mowing a 1 inch tall (BROWN BURNT DEAD) lawn with a full size riding mower. Or wiping before you poop, just doesn't make any sense.  ::)

Whats the problem with being "cost effective"?

I never liked the word cheap, it has too much negative connotation,

what ever happened to being thrifty being a good thing?

If Harley owners want to waste all their money on over-inflated priced parts that makes them stupid in my book...

Have a great one Cheapie

Actually, for those who don't really know, (but have an opinion, just the same) Harley parts are quite reasonably priced. For example, when the bottom end assembly (crankpin and rods) on my Ducati #$%* themselves in 1989, I was faced with a parts bill of $1300.00 for which I got a pin, two rods and two roller bearings. The price for a Harley Sportster crank pin assembly was then $375.00, and was much better quality. Sadly, it wouldn't fit, or I would have used it, for sure! Cheers, Terry. :)
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

so a honda pin assembly would have been 37.50 based on the 9.99 to 100.00 ratio?

I'm pretty young, 22 yrs old, but I've dealt with money long enough to know that its hard to make so why spend it unwisely.  Being thrifty is an art in itself, and those who do it well save tons of money.  The important thing is to know when not to be frugal, cheap, thrifty, what have you because thats when you can get into trouble.  For instance you never sacrifice necessities like brakes.

Be thrifty and be proud, because at the end of the day you know you're right. ;)

I agree completely, never be thrifty when it comes to safety,

I may not need a $600 helmet  but my brain is worth more to me than these cheap $30 helmets on E-bay

Actually Richard, I think Tom was saying that we Honda owners would want a 375.00 item for 37.50, because when it comes to spending money, we're about as tight as a fishes ass, which of course, is water-tight! ;D

Re: Buying expensive helmets, if the cheaper helmet is DOT or Snell approved, it will still save your life, but may not be as comfortable or as quiet as a more expensive "brand name"  item. I just bought a new Nolan N100E flip front helmet from an Ebay seller in the US, the total for the new helmet plus airmail to Oz was $199.95, which is just about half what the bike shops here sell them for. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I know what he meant, i was being the devil's advocate....  I and my money are tight too, but i dont expect to pay 10% of an items worth, then again i dont mind getting lucky

I think he was frustrated ar someone wanting to buy a part from him at a cheapskate rate (probably on E-bay), minimizing his profit margin which sucks a lot

My halmet is a DOT fulface I got on ebay for $75  i think, the $700 shoe's must be made of solid gold or something

Yeah, I couldn't justify buying a new Shoei either, I get a free full face helmet every couple of years from the army, the last few were Shoei's, but they've gone cheap ass (or maybe SOHC4-ass, ha ha!) and now issue a brand called "Nitro".

To be fair the helmet looks and seems to fit ok and I had to replace the Shoei because something inside the lining was digging a hole in my forehead on my last long ride, but I think I'll keep the Nitro as a spare, once the Nolan arrives. Cheers, Terry. ;D

My family heritage is Scottish, which makes me a natural cheap-skate (the term thrifty actually means Scotch to some people).  I really don't like paying more for something that can be had cheaper by other means!

I think BMW people are the strangest when it comes to money.  They will spend a ton on every gadget they can find, but they make a science of spreading the word on how to save 23 cents on the purchase.

I make a modest living doing what I do. I work hard for my $$ and am not quick to part with it. That is one reason that I bought myself my 550. Great bike for the money. And parts can be found relatively cheaply. If you are going to compare fair market pricing you should compare apples to apples, not apples to harleys. I think that most of us here know the fair market value of sohc items, so I hope that it wasn't anyone here that tried to lowball you Cheapo. About the jokes pointing to Honda owners... who cares? We have our opinions about them too.

If I sold my entire collection of Hondas, (7 or 8)  I would be hard pressed to afford a Hardley that Jessie James sneezed on.

But any one of my bikes looks better and draws more attention than sed bike.

as time marches on it may become harder and harder to find parts for my old honders, and I have seen prices climb on them, so you can bet I'm going to get them as cheap as i possibly can!

I am Scottish and you are absolutely right -we are a bunch of cheapskates - why else do you think I bought an old Honda  ;). SOHC-skate thats me  ;D.

BTW just for your reference "term thrifty actually means Scotch to some people" - there is no such term in Scotland as "scotch" - its an Americanism - if you want to refer to Scottish people call them "Scots" or "Scottish" ....and the drink is not called scotch its called whiskey!!! If you ask for a "scotch" in Scotland you`ll get the crap whiskey :-) Ask for a "wee dram" of single malt.

cheers

I guess I did not think of it this way.  ::)

The SOHC Hondas for the most part, are very cheap right now. This is problably indicative of the cost of parts. The parts for these bikes will not go up until the sources are depleted. This is why I have started hording some of the parts like motors, gas tanks, etc. You know, the stuff you can't just go out and make.

So maybe I need to finish my application as dealer for Custom Chrome and Motorcycle Stuff.

I have not lost the love for my Hondas, but they are a tough egg to make a living on.  ;)

I'll make more money exporting Easy Cheese to OZ.  ;D Terry, you are GONNA GET FAT!  ;D Wonder if I can sell it on eBay  8)

There are two main reasons why things are expensive:

a) It takes a lot of effort, development, trial-and-error, special machinery, scarce material, knowledge and experience, and the number of items sold is small. Example: A diamond, a spectrum analyzer, a computerized tomography scanner, a stethoscope etc.

b) It is cheap to make the product, but people would think it's a POS. Therefore let's jack up the price. Example: chrome parts -everything on a motorbike that is just for show-off-, designer clothes, designer apparel, designer parfum, designer watches etc.

Did you know that the parfum you pay 50 bucks per 100ml bottle only costs about 3 or 4 bucks to produce? It's just alcohol with a secret mix of scents. Even with the most expensive scents it just takes a little so it really doesn't increase the total price much. If you do the math we are paying it about 2 grand per gallon...

Am I thrifty? Indeed I am. It costs a lot to make money and I'm not willing to make some greedy company owners even richer. I have my whims, but I keep saving. That way I can afford to have four motorcycles and still take a whole year off. I know there is people in my company who make more than me, but while I am having a good espresso they are in some company meeting or writing some stupid spreadsheet...

Raul, sad part is the diamond is the most common gemstone. Really. Debeers dumps thier crap right in the ocean. They guard it with patrol boats and BIG GUNS. They do this to drive up the diamond market. Works everytime.  :D ;D
